Job Summary:
The Brewer is responsible for daily brewing and cellar operations at a regional brewery. Brewers at Burlington Beer Company are responsible for many tasks from raw material handling all the way through to brite beer. The position requires a willingness to train on diverse skills throughout the brewing process. Brewers reports directly to the Production Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participates in all brewing operations including but not limited to:
- Wort production on a 30 bbl Premier Brewhouse
- Centrifuge operation on an Alfa Laval Centrifuge
- All cellar duties and tasks include daily gravities, sanitary yeast harvest, handling dry hopping yeast/trub drops, and high-strength effluent waste removal.
- CIP operations on all vessels brewhouse and transfer lines.
- Data collection and entry throughout a shift.
- Adhere to SOPs checklists and troubleshooting guidelines and contribute to process improvements.
- Cleaning and general facilities upkeep.
- Contribute to a safe working environment and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Proper handling of raw materials
- Packaging duties as needed
- Monitoring equipment status and performing routine preventative maintenance
- Engaging in sensory panels
- Attention to detail and proper digital and paper log maintenance throughout all processes.
- Ensures that all beer is produced to standards and specifications by following recipes SOPs, and guidelines as set by the Production Manager &
Quality Manager.
- Adheres to rigorous quality control checks of beer throughout the brewing fermentation and packaging processes.
- Observe safety and security procedures.
- Cleans & sanitizes all equipment and work areas to maintain consistent
beer quality.
- Communicates efectively with Production Manager.
- Opportunities to participate in festivals and promotional events as needed while professionally representing BBCO and the brand.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- A passion for brewing craft beer quality assurance and quality control.
- General knowledge of brewing practices methods tools and equipment used in beer production.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function in a dynamic fast-paced work environment
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years brewing experience.
- Professional brewing certificate preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to:
- Lift 65 pounds and move 175 pounds regularly.
- Regularly stand for long periods of time walk use hands reach climb work from heights stoop kneel and crouch.
- Work in a loud wet cold hot indoor and outdoor environment frequently.
- Work with hazardous chemicals.
- Work on wet slippery floors.
Job Details:
- Position: Full Time Non-Exempt
- Location: Williston Brewery
- Schedule: 40 hours/wk M-F with occasional overtime and weekends
