Position: Burlington High School Associate Principal


Terms of Employment: 12-month position


Reports to: High School Principal & Superintendent of Schools

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education

  • Valid Massachusetts DESE license/certification in secondary administration (required)
  • Master’s degree or higher, preferably in educational administration (preferred)

Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum of three (3) years of certified administrative experience (preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching or counseling experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, families, and the extended school community

Essential Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Understand and advocate for the developmental needs of adolescent learners. 
  • Champion the mission and vision of BHS, advancing the Portrait of a Graduate to prepare students for future success.
  • Guide and support teachers in research-based instructional practices, assessment strategies, and curriculum development.
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty/staff, providing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
  • Set clear expectations for high-quality teaching and hold teachers accountable for instructional effectiveness that supports the growth of all students.
  • Support building-based instructional leadership in ensuring the continuous improvement of curriculum and instructional programs.

School Culture & Leadership

  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative school environment centered on BHS’s core values of respect, responsibility, independence, and empathy.
  • Create structures that promote a strong sense of belonging by actively engaging students, staff, and families in meaningful dialogue and community-building efforts.
  • Communicate transparently and responsively with students, staff, families, and the community.
  • Encourage shared decision-making and strategic planning to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead and support strategic initiatives that drive meaningful, data-informed improvements in school culture, instructional practices, and student outcomes. 
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to identify challenges, implement solutions, and measure impact.

Administration & Operations

  • Support the management of personnel processes, including recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, legal requirements, and fiscal management best practices.
  • Oversee auxiliary services, such as transportation, food services, and facilities management. 
  • Actively support and engage in student extracurricular and co-curricular activities. 
  • Leverage technology to streamline administrative functions.
  • Have familiarity with standardized testing procedures/operations
  • Foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and ethical behavior.

Student Engagement & Well-Being

  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to address academic, social, and emotional needs while promoting culturally responsive practices.
  • Build authentic, inclusive relationships with students, families, and the broader community, ensuring diverse voices are heard and respected.
  • Advocate for and implement targeted support systems for multilingual learners, students receiving special education services, and historically underserved populations by ensuring equitable access to resources, individualized interventions, and inclusive learning opportunities.
  • Lead equitable disciplinary practices that promote learning, accountability, and growth while ensuring consistency and fairness in enforcing school expectations. 

Additional Expectations

  • Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Provide decisive leadership in crises and foster a safe, disciplined, and supportive learning environment.
  • Display creativity, flexibility, dependability, and patience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Assist in master scheduling and special programs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent

 

Compensation:

In accordance with the Burlington School Administrators' Association salary schedule
