The Department of Multilingual Learners is seeking an English Learner (EL) Math teacher for an EL Summer enrichment program at Burlington High School. The 4-week EL Pathfinder Program allows English Learners who are entering grades 9-12 to enhance their skills in math for academic purposes AND offers an opportunity to work on a multifaceted project to help educators learn more about the strengths and needs of multilingual learners. The program includes targeted skill development, active learning and paid work experience for students. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working with English Learners in math content and the language of math, as well as differentiation in a diverse, multi-age, environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Requirements:
- Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
- EL endorsement strongly preferred
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Commitment to work all 4 program weeks, June 24th - July 19th
Experience:
- Previous experience and Training working with English language learners, ideally at the secondary level.
- Previous experience working in a summer learning program. Or understanding of summer learning.
- Experience working with Multilingual Liaisons or interpreters preferred.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of best practices regarding relationship building, creating a safe yet challenging learning environment, and motivation and student management, particularly for students who are not yet fully proficient in English.
- Evidence of strong connection with students and families
- Experience working with Multilingual Liaisons or interpreters preferred.
- Knowledge of secondary Math research-based best practices, all levels of middle school/high school math
