Employment dates: May – Labor Day Weekend (September)
Salary: commensurate with experience
Hours scheduled per week: The position is full-time for ten weeks and part-time prior to the club opening and immediately following the closing. Additional administrative time may be required periodically during the spring in preparation for the season.

The Burlington Swim & Tennis Club, located in Burlington, Massachusetts, is a nonprofit, volunteer operated pool/tennis/social club. Founded in 1957, the club has been home to summer after summer of picture perfect good times for our members, our families, and friends. BSTC offers its members a private outdoor pool, tennis and club house facility where children of all ages spend their summers learning about social participation, recreational sporting and competitive swim and tennis.

The Burlington Swim and Tennis Club seeks a new Club Manager. Our Club is eager to identify an educator and a professional who understands, appreciates, and embraces the rewards and challenges associated with this visible and important role. The new Club Manager Director will report to the Board of Directors.
Description:
The Club Manager will be responsible for strategically and efficiently managing all aspects of daily operations, including:
- Manage all Human Resources pertaining to staff and volunteers.
- Maintain the club’s pool, facilities, and grounds
- Oversee existing club programs, such as the swim and tennis lessons
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of all club activities and events
- Collaborate with the board, staff, volunteers, and member families to help foster and sustain an engaging, fun, and safe environment for all members.
- Communicate effectively with staff, board, and club members in person and via email, social media, and other means. Ensure where possible to communicate with
Head lifeguard, Head Swim and Tennis coaches and Snack Shack lead ahead of their direct reporting staff.
The Manager must be a proven and confident leader and manager, an individual with a reputation for excellence, integrity, fairness, and with the proven ability to implement innovative programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth, including recreation, coaching, training, tutoring, or teaching. Knowledge of physical, social recreational games, coaching or tutoring methods.
- Willingness to do whatever is required to ensure that the club runs smoothly.
- Ability to plan, originate, organize, and successfully carry out daily and special programs.
Preferred:
- Previous teaching or camp experience
- Outdoor leadership experience
- Musical, art, athletic experience
- Lifeguard certification
- Experience with pool maintenance is a plus but not required. CPO certification is preferred.
General Responsibilities
- Direct all day-to-day operations of club operations including pool services, snack bar, daily program offerings, and special events from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
- Execute and successfully deliver a summer program that meets the needs and interests of the club’s target populations and ensure their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
Specific responsibilities:
- Perform daily pool cleaning and maintenance.
- Manage the overall appearance and cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
- Set and supervise program office procedures, staff training week, daily opening and closing procedures for staff, and routine daily cleaning schedule.
- Implement, supervise, and assist in the creation of routines, schedules, and procedures for successful club operation
- Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of members and program staff
- Provide an atmosphere for developing great morale, high energy, and well-being among club members and staff
- Implement, monitor, and report with regards to budget created by board on a weekly basis
- Oversee the smooth operation of the snack shack
- Onboarding of new members
- Professionally and courteously handle member and guest concerns and complaints informing the Board of Directors of all problems and solutions.
- Staffing--Train, supervise, and evaluate staff within boundaries of budget.
- Review and/or assist Head lifeguard, Snack Shack lead and coaches with staff and volunteer schedules. Ensure schedule for staff covers the pool and all program offerings are sufficiently supervised within the boundaries of annual budget (work with head lifeguard regarding lifeguard schedule) o Ensure that all lifeguards are properly certified. o Complete written staff evaluations of all club staff at the end of the season.
- Programming o Create, implement, and oversee dynamic program offerings for members ranging from toddlers to teens. o Utilize staff, volunteers, and interns to run programs. o Offerings should have artistic, athletic, social, and teaching components and blend seamlessly with the daily usage of the facility o Creation of a “teen offering” utilizing club house space o A minimum of 3 organized activities per week o A minimum of 4 family events per summer o Work with Swim and Tennis committees to ensure smooth and effective plans for meets and matches.
- Communications o Organize a welcome table on opening weekends to meet and engage with new and returning members. o Work with Board Secretary to keep the club website and Facebook account up- to-date and produce a weekly club newsletter, including informing members of cancellations due to weather.
- Operations o Annually review and monitor program crisis management plan, including emergency procedures with Head lifeguard and all staff at annual staff orientation. Ensure Lifeguards receive annual club pool orientation. o Manage property development and maintenance needs to ensure stewardship of current resources and identification of future needs. o Conduct annual assessment of property and maintenance needs. o Conduct annual assessment and account of all equipment o Meet or exceed budgeted expectations pertaining to operations
Physical Requirements:
This position will require the ability to listen to others, observe others’ actions, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals, and physical ability to move about the property in various environmental conditions.
