Description
To provide oversight of activities and documentation of trained child care workers dispensing medication to children and adolescents in residential care, follow up on outstanding medical needs, and to provide necessary medical training to staff.
Essential Duties:
- Conduct monthly reviews of medication logs in client files of children and youth in residential units, document errors or concerns, and sign off on reviews. Monitor medicine cabinet procedures.
- Review Physician's Order for Medication in client files of children and youth for completeness and necessary signatures, paying special attention to psychotropic medications.
- Provide clinical supervision to residential unit teams regarding administering and documenting medication and general nursing care.
- Participates in multidisciplinary, multi-agency teams and consult with residential supervisors/case managers, counselors, physicians, and consulting psychiatrist periodically and as needed.
- Organizes the delivery of nursing care within the environments to achieve quality and efficient utilization of resources.
- Interprets regulations and standards,
- Develops resources to provide nursing services that meet applicable standards. Monitors the efficient delivery of appropriate and safe nursing care.
- Provide in-service training on the agency's OSHA and procedures and Medication Monitoring as necessary to meet compliance.
- Monitor first aid supplies, health and safety practices, and make recommendations as needed.
- Work closely with local physicians and medical facilities.
- Evaluates staff injuries, may provide first aid, direct offsite care. Communicates with Human Resources and collaborates care, investigations, follow up as necessary.
- Is a member of the wellness committee.
- This could be training of staff concerning medical protocols for residents with different diagnoses such as seizures, Diabetes ect.
- Ensure that all medication is packed and labeled for home visits and discharges
- Ensure that all nursing/medical information is reported in the clients electronic file (extended reach)
- Assist in transporting residents to medical appointments when direct care staff are not available.
- May supervise staff, including LPN or other staff as assigned.
- Documents medical appointments in electronic database for record keeping
- Ensures that excess or unused medication is disposed of in a timely manner
- Can support the mission and vision of Burlington United Methodist Family Services as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
- Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
- Exhibits effective communication skills including proper use of agency communication systems.

- This position is defined as one that may require you to drive a motor vehicle as part of your daily work. This position does allow the employee to drive motor vehicles owned or leased by Burlington United Methodist Services, Inc., and to transport employees and residents when and if necessary.

- Supervise AMAP personnel, as well as LPN and other assigned staff.
Qualifications
Education level:
- Possesses a current West Virginia State Registered Nurse License with unrestricted/non probationary status
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in residential child/healthcare setting, preferred.
