The Burn Institute’s mission is to educate and inspire communities to reduce burn injuries and empower those affected by burn trauma. As a team, we bridge the efforts between fire and burn prevention awareness in our community and support services for burn survivors.
About this Position
The Burn Institute is seeking an organized and motivated individual who wants to work with supportive colleagues doing fulfilling work for our communities of San Diego and Imperial Counties. The Community Outreach Coordinator is an integral member of the Prevention Programs team, responsible for engaging the community through partnerships, education, and events. This position manages relationships with community partners to advance the Burn Institute’s mission and oversees the organization’s volunteer programs.
The role reports to the Director of Prevention to align outreach initiatives, coordinate fire safety programs, and ensure resources are accessible to underserved communities.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in community outreach, volunteer management, or event coordination (nonprofit experience preferred).
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management systems (Salesforce experience preferred).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Passion for fire prevention education and community service.
- Excellent teamwork skills, relationship building skills and natural customer service. Strong ability to work independently and effectively communicate with colleagues, clients, board members and the public
- Bilingual (English / Spanish, speaking / writing) a plus
