Burning Man is hiring: Website UX Designer in San Francisco

JOB SUMMARYThe scope of work for the Website UX Designer is the preparation of additional visual specifications and graphical assets for unique pages, page templates, and ad-hoc asset creation. The visual design deliverables will be handed off to Burning Man software engineers to implement.This is a temporary, part-time (approximately 20 hours per week), non-exempt role, based in San Francisco, CA running from March 1st, 2025  to August 1st, 2025.The deadline to apply for this role is 5 : 00 pm Pacific on February 10th, 2025.DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSProject Overview :   The goal of this project is to create templates and production ready designs for a new website that are : Visually appealing and engaging : Capturing the vibrancy and spirit of Burning Man through innovative and immersive design.Easy to navigate and use : Providing a user-friendly accessible experience for both seasoned Burners and newcomers.Informative and educational : Serving as a comprehensive resource for all things Burning Man.Mobile-friendly : Ensuring optimal viewing and interaction across all devices.Scalable and sustainable : Templates and designs Built within the Gutenberg framework for Word Press that can grow and evolve with the organization.The website is designed to serve as a central hub for Burners and the general public. It will provide information about the Burning Man event, Regionals, the Burning Man Project, and the Burning Man Culture and History. The website should also be a platform for Burners to connect, share their experiences, and engage with the community.Deliverables : UX Designs  (Low Fidelity Wireframes)  Visual design specification for specific "one off" pages and page templates that can be reused to render dynamic content in a consistent presentation. Wireframes will include interactive prototypes (i.e. Figma files) that can be used to demonstrate the proposed user experience.  Wireframes will be demonstrated and adjusted until sign off by client stakeholders is recorded.Visual Design Specifications (High Fidelity)   Pixel perfect visual designs and graphical assets that software developers can use to implement the visual designs. That includes desktop and mobile designs for all content.Developer Handoff All visual designs and graphical assets are delivered in a developer ready state so the people implementing the UX don't need to ask for clarification on design details.UX Assets Ad-hoc visual assets as requested.  Generally, these would be sourced from Burning Man's existing media libraries and prepared for web presentation.LEARNING AND TEACHINGDocumentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.QUALIFICATIONSREQUIREDThe ideal candidate will have the following qualifications : Burning Man Affinity : A deep understanding and appreciation of the Burning Man culture and ethos.Design System Proficiency : Proven ability to work within established design tools (i.e. figma)  to design reusable components and templates.  Visualize design concepts through storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.UX / UI Design Expertise : A strong grasp of user-centered design principles and the ability to create intuitive and engaging user experiences.  Eye for great design on brand-level web and graphic design.  Ability to create easy to use / navigate templatized pages to accommodate dynamic content, production graphics from BMP Photo and Video collections and one off specialized pages are neededWeb Design Skills : Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with knowledge of responsive design principles.  Demonstrated delivery of workflows, hierarchies, content organization, wireframes, mockups and delivery of final HTML assets.Familiarity with Guttenberg blocks : The website uses Wordpress Gutenberg platformAccessibility Advocate : Familiarity with web accessibility standards and best practices.Communication & Collaboration : Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.Note : If you have gained the necessary experience to succeed in this role and have acquired this experience in other ways, we encourage you to apply and share all relevant experience in your application.COMPENSATION : Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location.
