JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Fluffer Lead Driver will work as part of the Fluffer Team to provide hydration, snacks, and other supplies for DPW and Burning Man Departments by safely navigating the city in an assigned fleet box truck or fleet van throughout the event production cycle, including event week.
This temporary, ineligible for benefits role is :
- From July - October : Full-Time, Non-Exempt, based in Black Rock City, Nevada.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Daily Operations (60%)
Responsibly, attentively and safely drive a designated fleet vehicle following a specified route in a timely manner.Knowledge of and ability to perform basic, daily vehicle maintenance as directed by Auto Shop standards.Knowledge of all Fluffer routes and timelines for deliverables.Observe and relate relevant information to the DPW Auto Shop Manager pertaining to any needed repairs or maintenance to the vehicle allocated.Collaborate with Managers and Crew Leads for their team servicing requirements.Maintain and clean all igloos for all working DPW and Burning Man crews on playa.Maintain a respectful demeanor and effective interactions with all persons, providing services with care and offering thoughtful acknowledgement of requests.Contribute to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents for assigned projects.Inventory (20%)
Responsible for organizing, stocking, and keeping a clean, safe work environment.Keep correct, detailed inventory of all the Ice delivered.Leadership (15%)
Advise and support other Fluffer Drivers as they learn the Fluffer routes; Ability to remain flexible and step in when necessary.Help to orient all DPW Fluffer team members to the rules and procedures of the Fluffer Team, making sure that all protocols and responsibilities are fulfilled.Consistent communication with the DPW Support Operations Manager and Fluffer Management about crew dynamics, morale, and performance observations providing regular reports and feedback when requested.Ensure compliance with BRC’s safety and quality specifications, documenting incidents and supporting corrective measures when implemented.Monitor the well-being of staff and self, supporting clear, manageable work expectations, and managing self-care; Proactively address any concerns with management.Know, share, and use the proper pathways of communication for de-escalating personnel issues.Serve as a mentor, positive role model, and team leader guiding people as they work, identifying the best people for the job, instructing and sharing skills as necessary.Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)
Work with the Team to plan and execute LNT and Waste disposal plans for all relevant operations.Adjust workflow to support changing safety protocols as directed.Participate in meetings when requested and maintain related correspondence.Be familiar with, understand and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies, protocols and behavioral standards.Perform other duties as assigned.LEARNING AND TEACHING
Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Familiarity with Burning Man and event-based production work.Proven knowledge of Fluffer routes.Experience with supervision of laborers and volunteers; Ability to work with a largely volunteer labor force. (minimum 1 major project)Ability to problem solve, apply critical thinking to situations, and remain calm under stress.Proven leadership experience; Ability to lead by example, motivate teams, and have excellent interpersonal skills.Clear, service-oriented communication, verbally and written; Able to evaluate, tailor style and patiently respond to needs for support. Experience with using 2 way radios.Able to effectively manage own time and the efforts of the team as a whole.Operates with behavioral integrity and reliability, paying careful attention to detail in the handling of important information. Able to instill and apply order and cleanliness to the work environment.Working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive) and Microsoft Word and Excel (1 year or comparable software experience)Capable of working in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, poor air quality and low to no visibility at times; Experience in remote wilderness and / or desert environments.Ability to temporarily relocate for work at the Burning Man event held in Gerlach, NevadaPreferred

Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated rate for this position :
From July - October is $17.00 to $20.00 per hour.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
On-playa : This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation.
