JOB SUMMARY The General Contractor Crew will participate in the general construction, maintenance, logistics, and setup of real estate projects and other fixed assets across the Nevada Operations portfolio. Aspects of the project may include but are not limited to carpentry, dirt work, painting, heavy equipment operations, plumbing, electrical, and other manual labor. The ability to operate a skid steer, variable reach fork, and backhoe is a benefit. This is a temporary, full-time , non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from March to November , 2025. The deadline to apply for this role is 5 : 00 pm Pacific on Friday, March 12, 2025 DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Construction & Logistics (55%) Work collaboratively creating structures, leveling the earth, constructing and installing signage, installation of materials, installing large items, installing flooring, painting, fixing and maintaining bathrooms and kitchens, installation of doors and windows. Perform manual labor as instructed. Assist with construction and clean up duties as required. Use hand, power, and fixed tools such as table saws. Help to maintain the general environment and overall safety, organization, and functionality of all work sites and Gerlach area operations in general. Assist in the set-up and breakdown of an on-site workshop where the construction will occur. Establish and maintain a clean and safe worksite while utilizing the necessary OSHA-approved safety equipment Maintain flexibility in schedules due to the workload being dependent upon vendors and other departments. Heavy Equipment Operation (35%) Operate heavy equipment in compliance with Burning Man Project and OSHA’s operating safety policies and procedures. Provide recommendations for maintaining and improving environmental performance. Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers. Ensure equipment, materials, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored safely. Perform daily inspections of heavy equipment. Move boxes, containers, and other materials as necessary. Complete any organizationally required training as necessary. Other Functions and Responsibilities (10%) Be familiar with and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies. Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the Nevada Operations Manual, DPW Handbook, and Ranch Protocols. Other tasks as assigned. LEARNING AND TEACHING Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties. Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes. Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested. Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Able to adjust schedule seasonally and relocate to Gerlach, Nevada, for the entirety of the contract. Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada. Experience (1 years) in general construction / handyman. Knowledge of and experience with power tools, including table saw, skill saw, miter saw, jigsaw, and angle grinder. Ability to work with awareness and clear communication in a production environment. Experienced and comfortable with using 2 way radios. A professional work ethic and enthusiasm toward working with others. A team player who is also able to work independently. Excellent interpersonal skills; able to help motivate and encourage a collaborative work environment. Dependable; fulfills obligations. Open to change and considerable variety in daily tasks. Instills and applies order and cleanliness to the work environment and pays careful attention to equipment handling details. A respectful and polite demeanor, able to provide services with care and offer thoughtful acknowledgment and accommodation of requests. Honest and ethical with a dedication to the Burning Man principles and behavioral standards. Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in NVO Handbook, Ranch Protocols, and the Fly Ranch S.O.P. PREFERRED Understanding of electrical and plumbing basics. On-the-job training in skid steer, variable reach fork, and backhoe is available for the right candidate. It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and is familiar with its culture. First-Aid knowledge. Experience working in remote wilderness and desert environments. OSHA-10 certification Experienced heavy equipment operator able to operate a fixed mast forklift (Hyster 360) at a minimum. COMPENSATION : Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Off-playa : This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature. On-playa : This position is not an on-playa position.
