JOB TITLE: Seasonal Bartender

REPORTS TO: Food and Beverage Director

COMPENSATION: Hourly (Non Exempt Status)

This position requires working weekends and holidays during peak season (May through September).

Who we are:

  • Burning Tree Country Club is, first and foremost, a private golf club that places high importance on the creation of an open and family oriented environment.
  • The club was founded in 1962.
  • Our amenities include an 18-hole golf course which has hosted US Open Qualifiers and Met PGA events, an 8-lane 25-meter pool with a diving well, Har-Tru tennis courts, a platform tennis complex, and multiple member and event dining options. We have active junior programs in golf, tennis and aquatics and offer a summer camp.
  • We take pride in our daily ala carte service, as well as our first class events created by our Events & Banquets Team.
  • Our Food & Beverage department incudes various a la carte outlets (indoors and outdoors; i.e. The Grille Room, Founders Bar, Patio and Salons, catering to all members and guests needs according to established rules and etiquette.

The Essentials

  • A focus on hospitality and guest rapport alongside the use of proper verbiage and Member’s names at all times
  • Anticipate membership needs and be accountable for providing exceptional service.
  • Knowledge of tableside and bar etiquette
  • Rigorous attention to detail
  • Practice safe food handling procedures and have an awareness of food allergens
  • A strong sense of urgency
  • Follow club policies and procedures, including maintaining knowledge of the POS system
  • Set the bar up daily based upon anticipated guest counts and client needs.
  • Provide professional, friendly and courteous service to all members and their guests.
  • Collect chits and enter charges for drinks served, as well as take beverage orders from serving staff. The Bartender will often have to take food orders as well directly from members.
  • Assess when necessary about identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchasing alcohol.
  • Clean/polish glasses, utensils, and bar equipment. Prepare the bar for service, restocking wines, beer, liquor and related supplies such as ice, glassware, napkins, straws, etc.
  • Limit liability related to customers’ excessive drinking by taking steps such as alerting a manager.
  • Serve wine, bottled and draft beer, and all other permissible beverages requested by Members and Guests.
  • Be courteous, maintain a professional attitude and act professionally throughout service no matter how busy you are.
  • Assist the host and management with meeting, greeting and seating of guests when this is required.
  • Must be able to work as a team and get along with co-workers to ensure a positive working environment for all staff.
  • Must be able to take orders correctly for drinks and food.

The Standards

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving standard situations.
  • Basic bar and beverage knowledge: beer, liquor, wines.
  • Basic dining room service and bar etiquette and food knowledge.

Language and Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Strong verbal and written skills to manage all business communications using proper etiquette.
  • Friendly, courteous, customer focused demeanor at all times.
  • Outgoing, warm, caring and positive attitude.

The Expectations

While performing the duties of this position, Employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and taste and smell. The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required in this job include close and distance vision.
