Assistant Director of Special Services
PROJECTED START DATE: July 1, 2025
POSITION SUMMARY: This is a 12-month district-level administrative position that will assist the work of the Director of Special Services in providing leadership to the Special Services Department. The Assistant Director will ensure District compliance with Part 200 of Commissioner’s Regulations and maintain effective appropriate practices and procedures for CSE and CPSE referrals, evaluations, data collection, meeting schedules, participant notification, and post-meeting documents and reports. The Assistant Director will work in conjunction with the Director to facilitate instructional and programmatic improvements to support continued student achievement. This 12-month position includes leadership of the district ESY program.
RESPONSIBILITIES-
- Assist the Director in the recruitment and supervision of K-12 Special Education teachers, related service providers and support staff.
- Assist in reviewing and revising special services department procedures, as necessary, in response to changing state mandates.
- Chair meetings of the Committee on Special Education.
- Assure that CSE and CPSE meetings occur within required timelines, consisting of legally-constituted committees, with all required members present, or appropriate waivers signed.
- Assure timely follow-up of CSE recommendations regarding arrangements for services and evaluations and communication of CSE recommendations to appropriate building and Central Office personnel.
- Facilitate the program search process for students with disabilities with a recommended out-of-district placement, including accompanying parents and students to intake meetings.
- Review referrals and consult with building level pre-referral intervention teams to explore regular education interventions prior to CSE involvement.
- Coordinate and supervise the district’s 30 day Summer Extended School Year Program.
- Assist the Director in serving as a consultant and resource to administrators and district staff on the needs of classified students, available programs, and federal, state and local regulations, policies and procedures.
- Maintain familiarity with the Special Education student database and documentation system, and assure accuracy of clerical data entry and IEP production.
- Assist in the collection and organization of data necessary for status reports on special education programs, services, and student enrollments.
- Serve as liaison to district and community organizations to provide information regarding the CSE and CPSE process.
- Assist in the facilitation of outreach and informational opportunities for parents of students with disabilities.
- Participate in BOCES CSE Chairs meetings, and other regional meetings pertinent to special education services.
- Assist the Director in the coordination and implementation of professional development for special services staff.
- Provide relevant information to the Business Office relative to preparation of budgets, grants and required Medicaid reporting.
- Assume other appropriate duties and responsibilities as may be requested by the Superintendent of Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- New York State Administrative Certification; SDA, SAS, or SDL
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience serving as a CSE Chairperson is preferred.
