What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Specialist position at Burr and Burton Academy?
Burr and Burton Academy seeks a full-time special educator, beginning August 2025. Candidates must have experience supporting students with social cognition, behavioral, and social emotional needs, and experience in planning, leading, and managing IEP meetings. Necessary qualities include a strong instructional background in basic skill areas, effective communication, initiative, knowledge of special education regulations, and the ability to complete and interpret evaluations and IEPs.
Responsibilities include collaborating with agencies that prepare students to pursue independent living and work opportunities, and facilitating related transition activities. A calm, supportive demeanor and willingness to work as a collaborative team member with educators, families, and outside agencies is required, as is current Vermont certification in special education. Preferred candidates have a familiarity with MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Supports), are competent in data collection, technology integration and progress monitoring, and have the ability to motivate and engage students.
