The Special Education Behavioral Specialist ensures confidentiality in allmatters related to staff and student personal information.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
The Behavior Specialist is a professional support position. The Behavior Specialistwill collaborate with school staff to develop behavioral interventions for students withdisabilities. The Specialist reports to the Director of Special Education butcoordinates his/her work with the Special Education Teacher.2. Under the direction of a teacher, assists students with all phases of activities on anindividual and group basis throughout the day.3.
Assists in the transport of students to and from buses to ensure safety and theboarding of the assigned buses.4. Provides input to the teacher regarding students behavior.5. Assists staff members in supervising students in the classroom, during lunch, and atrecess periods to maintain proper orderly conduct and works with teaching staff toresolve behavior problems.6. Under the direction of a teacher, applies varying methods of behavior managementdesigned to maximize student learning.7.
Possesses the ability to interact effectively with students in individual and groupsituations.8. Participates in the design and interpretation of Functional Behavior Analysis (FBAs)9. Designs and implements multi-faceted behavior interventions10. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals11.
Understands and works with the various support systems available in the community12. Understands Special Education regulations including the Least Restrictive BehaviorIntervention policy13. Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle emotionally chargedsituations.14. Maintains confidentiality regarding staff and student information.15.
Travels as needed on transportation to and from school with students.16. Performs other job-related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum of 3 (three) years or training or related experience with behavioralintervention strategies.2. Successful completion of trainings specific to working with students with MentalHealth issues, Special Needs, and/or Behavioral Issues.3.
Oral communication skills at the level required for the position.4. Proficiency with technology at the level required for the position as well as awillingness to improve skills.5. Experience with Case Management, including correspondence with outside agencies,parents and school staff.6. A pleasant manner and positive, professional attitude that facilitates good interactionwith children and adults.7.
The ability to lift, assist, and appropriately physically restrain children.8. Organizational skills that ensure efficiency.9. Familiarity and training with Safety Care or similar de-escalation techniques
