SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION COORDINATOR
The Town of Burrillville, located in northwest Rhode Island, is seeking applicants for the
position of SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION COORDINATOR at the Burrillville Police
Department. This is a full-time position which is available immediately.
This position is responsible for carrying out the provisions of prevention and education services
in the areas of substance abuse and other identified topics in prevention to promote and
support positive lifestyle choices to residents of the Burrillville community and schools.
A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, along with 2 years’ work experience in prevention education
and substance abuse prevention. Successful applicants must be willing to work towards
eventually obtaining certification in substance abuse prevention, or be willing to work towards
certification in the first year of hire. Applicants must also possess excellent verbal and written
communications skills, public speaking skills, computer skills, and willingness to maintain a
flexible schedule, involving some nights and weekends.
Starting salary is $60,000 - $74,000, depending on qualifications. The Town of Burrillville also

OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for carrying out the provisions of prevention and education services in the areas of substance abuse and other identified topics in prevention to promote and support positive lifestyle choices to residents of the Burrillville community and schools.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
1.Responsible for ensuring work complies with the Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition's Scope of Work to accomplish the established program goals and objectives; prepares activity log, monthly narrative reports on Prevention Education activities, tracking and keep data of all activities for the BPAC Annual Report as well as the PFS (Partnerships for Success) grant. The PFS grant runs through September 2018.
2.Strategically plan, coordinate and organize the Partnership for Success Action Plan; focus groups, community surveys, community presentations, etc., focused on substance abuse prevention. Collect and summarize all data for progress reports and final strategic plan and update documents as needed. Ensure community partnership.
3.Attend all State required meetings and Trainings.
4.Designs, plans, organize and conduct community educational presentations, activities and training on high risk behaviors, alcohol & substance abuse to parents, youth & communities.
5.Collaborates with Community and schools to identify specific prevention education needs to develop prevention activities; assists these organizations in coordinating prevention activities.
6.Coordinates and/or facilitates educational prevention groups.
7.Participates in Health fairs, Community Events and plans activities to address monthly recognition events (Family Fun Day, Red Ribbon, Alcohol Awareness Month, etc.); acts as chaperone during youth activities on an as needed basis.
8.Coordinates and facilitates monthly BPAC meetings by creating each month's agendas and meeting notice. Communicates all meeting details to membership.
9.May supervise additional part time or temporary staff.
10.Appropriate Grant Development and Management.
11.Creates yearly budget and monthly state and local reimbursable program related invoices.
12.Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor to achieve the BPAC goals and objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor's Degree preferred
•Two (2) years' work experience in prevention education and substance abuse prevention.
•Certified in substance abuse prevention, or willing to work toward Certification of Prevention and become certified within a year of start date.
•Knowledge of substance abuse prevention field.
•Knowledge and skill regarding mandated reporting and budget creation and implementation.
•Knowledge of community needs, survey techniques, presentation evaluations, coordination of services.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills

•Excellent human relation skills.
•Skill in creating and conducting public presentations
•Skill networking with multiple agencies and community organizations and members.
•Skill in working with populations ranging from preschoolers to elderly.
