Burrow Global is seeking to hire an experienced Purchasing Manager – Indirect Spend for a contract to hire opportunity with a Petrochemical Company.
The Purchasing Manager - Indirect Spend will partner with the Category managers and the Sr. Director of Indirect procurement on strategies for indirect spending categories within a petrochemical manufacturing environment.
Utilizing SAP ERP, the role involves managing a team of buyers located across the country, optimizing cost efficiency, ensuring compliance, and fostering supplier relationships. The manager aligns procurement goals with organizational objectives, focusing on continuous improvement, team development, and stakeholder collaboration.
This position is a hybrid position that requires the incumbent to work in the office at least 3 days per week. Candidates for this position must be in the Houston, TX area or Schenectady, NY area.
Requirements
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree, in business, a related field with a minimum of
5 years of sourcing or purchasing experience of MRO, Services, Utilities and CapEx project support.

Requirements
- Candidates must have a deep understanding of indirect spend categories (e.g., MRO, services, utilities, and CAPEX) procurement strategies used in the Petrochemical industry.
- Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with suppliers for indirect goods and services.
- Ability to establish and maintain strategic supplier partnerships to ensure quality, delivery, and cost optimization.
- Implement supplier performance management programs, including scorecards and regular reviews.
- Mitigate supplier risks by assessing financial health, delivery capabilities, and market dynamics.
- Conduct spend analysis, market research, and supplier evaluations to support strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Proven experience in identifying and executing cost-saving initiatives across multiple indirect spending categories.
- Lead contract negotiations to achieve favorable terms and conditions.
- Monitor procurement performance metrics (cost savings, compliance, supplier performance).
- Hands-on experience with SAP procurement modules.
- Ability to use SAP for purchase requisitions, orders, invoice matching, and spend analytics.
- Generate and analyze reports for spend management, compliance, and supplier performance.
- Experience managing and coordinating activities for buyers remotely across multiple locations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Skills in fostering collaboration, accountability, and effective communication across a dispersed team. This position will have 3 direct reports.
- Ability to coach and mentor buyers to enhance their skills in negotiations, category management, and SAP proficiency.
- Set clear performance targets, regularly evaluate team results, and implement improvement plans when necessary.
- Build strong working relationships with internal departments like engineering, operations, and finance to align procurement strategies with business needs.
- Experience with demand planning
- Experience with MRO and e-procurement tools a plus
- Generate and analyze reports to monitor spending, compliance, and procurement efficiency.
