What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator II Lead (Material Recovery Facility) position at Burrtec?
We are currently seeking an Equipment Operator II Lead at our Agua Mansa/ Riverside, CA, Material Recovery Facility.
The Equipment Operator II Lead operates a combination of any of the following equipment relating to the processing, compacting, and loading of refuse in the Transfer Station: Wheel Loader, Track Dozer, Skid Steer, and Excavator
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Will operate a combination of any of the following equipment:
- Wheel Loader to push, stack, move or load material
- Track Dozer to push and compact material
- Skid Steer to remove recoverable items and load into Boxes
- Excavator to feed a Conveyor/Shaker
- May support Material Recovery Facility with the combination of the following equipment:
- Forklift for movement of recycled materials
- Sort line panel controls (may provide guidance to sorters)
- Baler to prepare material for shipment
- Will inspect equipment daily and report unsafe conditions
- Will stop operation of any malfunctioning equipment
- Will follow safe work practices and adhere to safety rules.
- Will perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment
- Will perform Load Check and Spotter Functions
- Will assist in diversion of commodities in Transfer / Green Waste / Inert areas
- Assist Supervisor with the maintenance of the department and site
- Assists Supervisor/Manager with training and evaluation of department personnel
- Assists with preparation of weekly schedules.
- Helps enforce operations and safety policies/procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must have good judgment skills and ability to recognize equipment problems.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a minimum of 2 years of Heavy Equipment experience and at least 2 years of Transfer Station or Landfill experience.
- Must be able to read and understand safety rules, operating manuals, and procedures
- Must be an effective communicator and recognize individual staff and departmental needs, effectively providing guidance and direction.
- Requires a minimum of 2 years of Lead or Supervisory experience
- Must have:
- Effective radio communication skills to provide regular and clear direction of crew while monitoring changing operational needs and conditions throughout each day.
- Ability to monitor work area, traffic, public and crew for safety and potential hazards, while operating equipment at the Transfer Station, with an acute attention to detail such as safe spotter procedures, vehicle spacing and backing practices.
- Must be able to recognize changing operational needs for various crew attentions throughout the operating day and direct crewmembers to complete tasks as needed while he/she is operating, including changes in wind direction, application of dust control water, pick litter, and general crew efficiency.
PHYSICAL:
- Must have the ability to operate a Wheel Loader, Track Dozer, Skid Steer, Excavator, Water Truck, Roll Off Truck
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Will be exposed to moderate noise and dust levels.
- Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, snow, fog).
