Role and Responsibilities
The night dispatcher is responsible for dispatching and scheduling drivers to customer sites for night work with the schedule being 8 PM to 8 AM. They serve as a central contact point for both truck drivers and customers. They complete multiple trucks, customers, drivers, and routes, which require extreme attention to detail.
Responsibilities include:
- Answers dispatch at night while working.
- Confirm drivers understanding all dispatches to job sites while aligning trucks and staff to the jobs.
- Confirms that Drivers leave yard and arrive at job sites at assigned times each day (during their shift).
- Check OSS for accuracy.
- Conduct first pass at ticket review for all of the prior day.
- Conducts driver & equipment compliance checks, ex. Truck books, pre-trip and post trip.
- Keeps track of customer billing information with name, codes, location and pricing.
- Keep the driver board updated on the server for sales and managers to view.
- Work fluently with the Management team to schedule trucks for PM services if needed.
- Follow up and track down all missing info for billing, including AFE, Cost Code, PO, Credit app.
- Management of the uniforms for employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of trucking regulations and laws
- Understanding of how trucking and logistics work
- Analytical skills to solve problems and coordinate difficult situations.
- Ability to handle upset customers.
- Technology skills, particularly in transportation management software
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Work/Environment and Physical Requirements (with or without an accommodation)
- Shop, Field, and office environment using equipment as needed to perform duties, frequent interruptions throughout day likely.
- Essential: continuous standing, bending, sitting, wrist turning, grasping, pinching, finger manipulation, frequent turning, and twisting, and reaching.
- Weather elements can be extreme cold, heat and wind.
- Occasionally required to lift or carry up to 50 - 75 lbs. push/pull occasionally required for up to 50 - 75 lbs.
- Hearing and vision (both correctable) are essential.
