Position: Director of Esports (Part-Time, 12 months)

Bushnell University Overview:

The Bushnell Athletic Department is a member of the NAIA, ECAC (Esports), and Cascade Collegiate Conference. Bushnell currently sponsors 17 athletic teams including: baseball, basketball (men’s and women’s), beach volleyball, cross country (men’s and women’s), esports, outdoor track & field and indoor track (men’s and women’s), golf (men’s and women’s), soccer (men’s and women’s), softball, and volleyball.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director, coach, plan, organize, recruit for, and coordinate the Bushnell University Esports Program.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Direct all aspects of the Esports program: including recruiting, scholarship distribution, spiritual formation, budgeting, scheduling, rules compliance, practice, and game preparation, scheduling of contests, and supervision of assistants and game coaches
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate Esports within the academic, spiritual formation, and athletic philosophies of Bushnell University and NACE; verify eligibility of student-athletes according to established regulations and procedures
  • Maintain a minimum roster of 26 student-athletes through recruiting and retaining that can be successful academically, socially, and as members of the esports program
  • Maintain and implement programs for retention during the on and off-season
  • Organize arena schedules for practice and game sessions
  • Manage and advocate for Esports arena needs and upgrades
  • Hire, evaluate, and supervise assistant staff and game coaches
  • Conduct fundraising activities for the Esports program (examples could include summer camps or raffle ticket sales)
  • Establish and maintain Alumni relations
  • Attend all Athletic Director and/or Vice President for Student Development assigned events and functions
Special Requirements:
Knowledge of/ability to:
  • Understand and work toward the goals of Bushnell University and NACE
  • Know college policies, procedures, and trends related to Intercollegiate and competitive Esports
  • NACE philosophy, rules, regulations, regarding eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, recruiting, game seasons, etc.
  • Proper coaching and motivation techniques
  • High pedagogy of Esports
  • Goals and objectives of assigned activity
  • Risk management and safety regulations; applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Budget preparation and control
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Operation of computer and applicable software
Experience and Qualification Requirements:
Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree and extensive participation in competitive Esports. Two years of collegiate level experience preferred.

  • The position requires driving a vehicle, and the employee must possess (or have the ability to attain) an Oregon Driver’s License and meet eligibility criteria under the University’s auto policy.
  • The position may require lifting up to 40lbs, as well as bending, stooping, kneeling for the purposes of setting up and taking down game day equipment.
  • The position is subject to evening, weekend, and variable working hours including holidays.
  • The position involves indoor and outdoor work subject to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to participate in rigorous physical activity (dexterity of hands and fingers, loading and unloading of athletic training equipment of up to 40lbs., standing for extended periods of time, reaching overhead and above the shoulders, bending at the waist/kneeling.
