Summary:
As a breakdown of the sponsor's current day-to-day work, that they are looking to augment with this contractor; The sponsor is responsible for working with our development partners in Xbox Publishing to help them take their game code and turn it into the playable game client. Some of our partners have deep experience in this area and have their own build engineers. Some of our partners do _not_ have build engineers. My role is to figure out their current capacity in this area, then do the work to help them use cloud infrastructure (Azure) to build and deliver their game clients more efficiently and quickly. Many of our partners do not have experience with Azure, so I also perform the function of an infrastructure engineer / architect and help them design their infrastructure for build pipelines as necessary. This takes the form of regular meetings and gap analysis with our partners, so I am aware of the areas they need the most help with. My actual day to day work is broken up between partner meetings, designing / implementing Azure infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code, troubleshooting build pipelines, writing new pipelines to build the game client for a project, and writing automation pipelines to take those built game clients and deliver them to the developers working on the title so they can see their code/content changes in the game itself.
Main Functions:
- Creation, Maintenance, and Updates for Game Client build pipelines for the Unreal and Unity game engines
- Management of Cloud (in our case Azure Cloud) infrastructure as it pertains to Game Client build pipelines
- Creating and Maintaining Infrastructure as Code for the Cloud Infrastructure mentioned above
- Creating and Maintaining scripts to automate tasks
Qualifications:
- Needs to demonstrate working knowledge of Game Client builds for Unreal and Unity
- Must have experience working with build pipelines in a Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery environment
- The candidate must have written build scripts for Game Client builds in Unreal or Unity, or demonstrate their knowledge of game client build pipeline scripts if they don’t have specific experience with either of those game engines.
- Needs to be able to look at existing scripts/code for automation and demonstrate the ability to explain the function of a given script/code
- Needs to be able to write their own scripts and code for automation of tasks
- Needs to demonstrate knowledge and experience using common Infrastructure as Code tools in a production environment: Namely Terraform and Packer
- Must have experience working with Git in a multi-user environment, and must be comfortable with Perforce even if they don’t use it all the time. The candidate must be able to explain the differences between these two systems.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant field required.
- 5-7 years experience required.
