Job Overview
The Labor and Delivery Nurse plays a critical role in the healthcare team, providing comprehensive care to expectant mothers during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. This position requires a compassionate and skilled nurse who can effectively support patients through one of the most significant experiences of their lives. The ideal candidate will have experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings, with a strong understanding of various medical systems and practices.
Duties
- Monitor the health and progress of laboring mothers and their babies.
- Administer medications and interventions as prescribed by physicians.
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe delivery practices.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health records systems such as eClinicalWorks or Cerner.
- Assist in emergency situations, including the management of complications during labor.
- Conduct assessments for infectious disease care and provide appropriate interventions.
- Support mothers with ostomy care when necessary post-delivery.
- Participate in continuous education to stay updated on best practices in maternal care.
8-week initial duration, ASAP starts
Schedule: 3x12s, 36 hours/week
Minimum 3 years of hospital (acute) experience required
Required Credentials:
CA RN License
BLS
ACLS
Skills
- Proficient in both outpatient and inpatient nursing practices.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems such as eClinicalWorks and Cerner.
- Knowledgeable in internal medicine principles related to obstetrics.
- Experience working in a Level I Trauma Center is preferred.
- Ability to provide care for patients requiring assisted living services.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and their families.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Competence in handling DME (Durable Medical Equipment) related to maternal care.
