Position: Assistant Business Administrator
Reports to: Business Administrator
Summary:
This position is responsible for the District’s planning, supporting, coordinating and overseeing business and operating services to include budget, finance, food services, facilities, grants, maintenance, custodial and transportation services. Critical areas include directing the ongoing development and improvement of business operations within the School District, participating in district-wide planning and implementation with issues relating to budgetary requirements. The Assistant Business Administrator works closely with the various Departments and Administrators to assess fiscal data for decision making and monitoring of financial services activities. The incumbent provides budget and financial services, data and analysis, and periodic reports to the Business Manager, Administrators, and School Board, as needed. The individual works with other members of the Department/Building in meeting goals and objectives in support of the district’s mission to provide and maintain a safe learning environment for all students, teachers, and staff. This position is responsible for the administration of the accounting practices, fiscal records and financial reports of the district in an efficient and expeditious manner and assisting the Business Manager and Superintendent in implementing the Board's goals to support the mission of Marple Newtown School District.
Critical areas include:
- Supervising the general accounting practices and tax activities;
- Directing ongoing development and improvement in the business office;
- Review financial reports in terms of costs, budgets, policies of operation, trends and opportunities;
- and Providing training, growth and opportunity for all HR and Business Office employees for improving protocols.
Primary Function: Assisting with the administration and supervision of the business office functions including, but not limited to, budget preparation, district accounting, local, state and federal reporting, purchasing and payroll.
Examples of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares budget(s) in accordance with required local, state and federal accounting requirements and practices;
- Ensures all budgetary controls and records are properly maintained;
- Performs district accounting functions including account transfers, debt service, cash management, taxes, investments, student accounts, and payroll;
- Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent(s) and administrators to ensure continuity and articulation of the business and operating services throughout the school district;
- Regular attendance as scheduled including day, evening, and other required meetings;
- Serves as treasurer to the board;
- Seated for extended periods of time;
- Communication relevant information to district employees;
- Extended use of computer screen;
- And performs other essential functions as assigned.
Regular Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises all related payroll functions;
- Supervises the collection, recording and reporting of taxes;
- Oversees the investment of district funds in accordance the school code;
- Research, coordinate, and apply for grant funds that suit the District’s needs;
- Administers purchasing, bidding, quoting and asset management functions in accordance with local, state and federal requirements;
- Maintenance of electronic budget, accounting, payroll, purchasing and operational records, reports, files and data;
- Supervises and evaluates assigned staff;
- Preparing all required district, local, state and federal reports;
- Acts as Business Administrator in the absence of Business Administrator;
Non-Essential Functions:
- Performs other reasonably related duties in equal or lower classifications as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Related experiences in the public or private sector with PA public school district experience preferred. B.S. degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field is required. Possess the ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Salary : $115,000 - $130,000
