The ideal candidate will be responsible for the proper application of fertilizers and soil amendments, ensuring optimal plant growth and soil health. This role requires an understanding of agricultural science, safe handling of chemicals, and the ability to follow detailed instructions in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities : Fertilizer Application : Apply fertilizers, soil conditioners, and other amendments to lawns and gardens based on specific needs and plant requirements. Equipment Operation : Safely operate various fertilizer application equipment such as spreaders, sprayers, and other machinery. Mixing & Handling : Properly mix and prepare fertilizers and chemicals according to prescribed guidelines and safety standards. Soil & Plant Monitoring : Conduct regular soil testing and evaluate plant health to determine the necessary types and amounts of fertilizer needed. Record Keeping : Maintain accurate records of fertilizer application schedules, quantities used, and safety measures followed. Safety & Compliance : Adhere to all safety regulations and environmental guidelines regarding the use of fertilizers and chemicals, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal. Customer Interaction : If applicable, interact with customers, providing guidance and education on fertilizer usage and benefits. Maintenance : Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any malfunctions or required repairs. Training : Stay updated on new fertilizers, techniques, and industry trends to ensure the best results for plant and soil health. Qualifications and Requirements : Education : High school diploma or equivalent. Core License or greater. Additional certifications in horticulture, or related fields preferred. Experience : 2-year previous experience as a fertilizer technician is preferred. Knowledge of fertilizers, soil amendments, and their effects on plant health. Ability to operate and maintain fertilizer application equipment and machinery. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in application processes. Ability to work independently and follow instructions carefully. Good communication skills for reporting and customer interactions. Physical Requirements : Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs, work in various weather conditions, and stand or kneel for extended periods. Certifications : A valid driver’s license is required. Pesticide or fertilizer application certifications is required (or ability to obtain). Working Conditions : Work will be performed in outdoor environments, subject to varying weather conditions. Requires the use of safety equipment (PPE) including gloves, goggles, and respirators when handling chemicals. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required during peak seasons.
