What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family / Homework Helper position at Busy Family of Four?
Job Summary
Busy family of four seeks family/homework helper for school-bus-pickup, light housekeeping, and homework help. Duties include picking up our two sons from their bus stop, tidying the kitchen and den, and providing homework assistance (reading aloud and scribing) for our high school son. This is not so much a tutoring gig as a provision of the same IEP accommodations he receives at school. Starting 2 days/week, 2-3 hours per day (potential to increase to 3-4 days), start time is 3:20 p.m. with our middle school son's bus stop pickup.
Duties
- School bus stop pickup for our middle school at 3:20 and our high school son at 3:50
- Light housekeeping (loading or unloading the dishwasher, starting the Roomba, putting away clean laundry, etc.) around 4:00
- Homework help including reading aloud and scribing at 4:30 or 5:00
Limited flexibility in days/hours may be possible.
My husband and I are both employed full time, though he works primarily from home. We have two sons who love gaming, animals, and online videos. Our older son is on the autism spectrum, very verbal, very technologically inclined, and extremely gentle and kind. Our younger son plays chess and the cello and can solve a Rubik's Cube. Both boys have really good hearts.
In terms of our household, it can be (usually is) fairly messy / cluttered. We're not hoarders, and our house is not unclean in any unhealthy way. There's just clutter (think boxes, shoes, the boys' backpacks and school supplies, etc.) in lots of places, stacks of mail on the table, and dishes in the sink. The dust bunnies run pretty wild. We're simply a busy family who live IN our house, NOT "for" it. If this kind of untidiness bothers you though, we might not be a good fit. We also have an ~85-pound, older mixed-breed dog who LOVES everyone (sometimes a little too enthusiastically) and two ferrets who live in my younger son's bedroom.
Most successful candidates will
- Have their own reliable transportation
- Maintain clear, prompt communication and punctuality
- Prioritize helping us keep our household running smoothly as it is, instead of suggesting drastic and unsustainable changes.
- Demonstrate patience and kindness in their work with our family
We're all hoping to meet you!
