What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Art Teacher position at Butler Academy?
Great art teachers have the ability to use mundane material and explain art in such a way that it becomes riveting. These brilliant minds inspire and challenge their students, creating space for independent thinking and crafting of individual art practices. And beyond these points, some art instructors are just cool.
At BA, we want art to be astoundingly high on the cool meter. The best candidates for this job will be able to see the (art) potential in every child. He or she will challenge themselves to create, plan, and prepare meaningful and relevant projects that will consistently maintain a high level of success for ALL students.
Of course, creativity is key! To be successful, you must figure out the best way to teach dozens, if not hundreds, of students with various backgrounds, talents, and interests daily. You must love kids as much as your content. In addition, your classroom management skills and awareness of the students you serve should be high, evident, and consistent.
As part of your commitment, we ask that you:
- Develop well-rounded artists through hands-on creative lessons
- Expose our scholars to various genres and types of art
- Differentiate instruction for scholars based on their educational needs, abilities, grade level and interests
- Support and prepare scholars for exhibit opportunities
- Teach art curriculum that aligns with the SC state standards
- Acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources (school funded)
- Create an engaging scholar-centered environment, utilizing teaching techniques from our “Responsive Classroom” training
- Motivate pupils and encourage progress
- Embody Butler Academy’s mission, vision, and core values
- Communicate and collaborate with families regarding the social and emotional well-being and academic progress of each scholar
