Primary Function

The Quality Improvement Specialist plays a key role in monitoring hospital compliance with regulatory requirements. This is accomplished through concurrent and retrospective electronic medical record audits and abstracting relevant clinical information. This information is compiled for reports provided to Clinical, Administrative and Executive Leaders. The Quality Improvement specialist ensures that regulatory data is submitted to regulatory agencies including the Center for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS), the Department of Health (DOH), and The Joint Commission (TJC). The Specialist works under the direction of the Director of Quality in maintaining a state of continuous readiness for regulatory surveys. The Specialist interacts effectively with clinical staff and provides education in hospital Quality of Care measures. The Specialist participates in quality improvement projects and facilitates improvements in hospital care.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts concurrent and retrospective medical record audits to meet the requirements for CMS, DOH, TJC, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Plays a significant role with compliance monitoring activities such as TJC readiness and State licensure requirements.

  • Prepares summary reports of quality data and improvement activities for presentation to internal and external audiences.

  • Collaborates with department leaders and staff to develop and review quality reports and to provide clinical/technical expertise.

  • Provides analytical support for clinical/unit-based quality improvement activities.

  • Serves on standing and ad-hoc committees, teams, and task forces.

  • Enhances Professional growth and development.

  • Preserves and protects patient’s rights to confidentiality.

  • Performs other job-related duties as required or requested.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

  • Education/Certification:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or related field required

    • National Association of Healthcare Quality Certification (CPHQ) preferred or willing to obtain

  • Training and Experience:

    • At least three years’ experience in a related field, such as quality management, case management, health information management, nursing or medical coding, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Experience working in behavioral healthcare settings preferred

Schedule: 40/80 Full Time Days
