Job Description
The Business Development and Competitive Intelligence Analyst is responsible for developing competitive intelligence reports and strategies and tactics to attract new business and expand existing client base. Analyst will work closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and the Senior Business Development Manager to assist with business development and marketing goals that raise the profile of the practices, and the firm. Analyst will also lead efforts to prepare all assigned competitive intelligence reports, request for proposals, and other materials as needed. The reports and proposals developed shall meet the requirements of the client and clearly define the scope of work and services to both the client and the internal execution group. The proposals and reports shall be prepared in a timely manner to comply with internal review requirements and client requirements.
Tasks And Responsibilities
Analyst shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Develop specific proactive business develop strategies in tandem with CMO and SBDM. Help to plan development efforts for cross-sell opportunities among the firm’s practices. Primary responsibility for preparation/review of the reports and proposals write-ups including:

Tasks And Responsibilities
Analyst shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Work with the CMO and the Senior Business Development Manager and others to strategically position the firm for new opportunities for expansion of work with existing clients and to proactively promote the firm for new business development.
- Manage the firm’s competitive intelligence program and assist in delivering actionable advice and insights through the following means:
- Investigate the economic conditions surrounding business activity such as industry trends and competition.
- Conduct extensive market research about trends in the legal industry and other key industries.
- Aggregate and utilize data from multiple sources to identify opportunities within the firm’s existing client base and with potential new clients.
- Creation of metric reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to track KPI’s and identify trends.
- Preparing the initial assessment of the technical, financial, schedule or any other unusual risks associated with a report or proposal;
- Preparing and leading Competitive Intelligence and Business Development meetings as necessary;
- Handling the execution of all documents;
- Obtaining assistance from other departments (Accounting, Human Resources, Pricing, Project Management, etc.) as required to prepare the proposal supporting documentation; and
- Keeping a detailed tracking of proposals to report progress.
- Obtain feedback from projects for “lessons learned” to incorporate in future proposals.
- Assist with the preparation of other marketing and business development materials to help promote and market the firm and its practice areas.
- Help prepare attorneys for presentations and pitches.
- Manage a competitive intelligence program to better prepare attorneys for meetings with clients and prospects.
- Develop copy for materials and website to help promote practice areas and groups.
- Work with other marketing team members for seminars, webinars, presentations, etc. to help advance visibility of practice areas. We have separate media and events teams, and this position will support the efforts of those teams as necessary, but is not an events or media/PR position[KW1] [AK2] .
- Bachelor of Science or related degree.
- Three plus years of experience with a minimum of one year in business development or project management[KW3] .
- Experience working in the legal industry, and particularly in a law firm environment is preferred.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal for interface with clients, attorneys and co-workers.
- Attention to detail a must and ability to meet multiple deadlines simultaneously a must.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Excellent computer skills a must including: Microsoft Office Suite including with excellent Excel skills required. Preferable to have extensive experience with Adobe Suite, etc.
- Project management or advanced technology experience in the areas of database management/creation or coding experience a plus.
- Firm and discipline specific software applications.
