JOB TITLE: Child Development Associate Teacher (10)
WORK YEAR: Full time: 7.5 hours per day/Monday-Friday, 7:45 am – 3:45 pm/11 months/181 days annually (Prorated upon hire). Approximately 10 extra duty days throughout the year.
START DATE: As soon as possible after interview
SALARY: Salary Schedule 04CD, Range 4, $18.92- $22.22 per hour. This position is exempt from overtime. Annual stipend pay: Master's $1,200 or Doctorate $2,000 per year (Prorated upon hire).
Child Development positions will be initially placed according to verified years of experience of like licensed or permitted employment as defined below.
- 0 – 5 years, Step A
- 6 – 10 years, Step B
- 11 years or more, Step C

POSITION DESCRIPTION – California State Preschool Children’s Centers:
Under the direction of the Direct Service Coordinator and the supervision of the Site Supervisor and Teacher, the Child Development Associate Teacher will assist staff in the implementation of a high-quality, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate child care and development program meeting the individual needs of young children and their families. The Associate Teacher will supervise and interact with children as positive role models, promoting learning experiences and assisting other staff. They will implement curriculum and scheduled activities and provide input regarding activity content. Additionally, they will interact with parents and participate in child assessment through observation recording.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: [May include, but not limited to the following.]
1. Assist in the implementation of elements of high-quality early childhood education programs
2. Ensure that the cognitive, physical, social-emotional, creative needs and educational needs of students are met
3. Assist Site Supervisor in performing regular inspections to ensure a safe, orderly, and appropriate learning environment outdoors and indoors in accordance with community care licensing and Title 5 regulations
4. Interact with children, facilitate learning, and support children in their overall development
5. Recognize, assess, and contribute to the assessment of children’s individual developmental levels; record anecdotal observations
6. Interact with families sharing information and supporting their involvement and needs
7. Promote and maintain a clean, safe environment for children including cleaning
8. Assume the responsibility of an absent teacher and prepare in advance as needed
9. Embrace and participate in supplementary support service programs
10. Collaborate with staff to plan and execute a daily nutrition program in compliance with Child Care Food Program which includes shopping for food items that comply with food program guidelines
11. Assist in bathroom support for children in the toilet learning process

Certification, Experience, and Training:
1. Hold a valid and unexpired Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, or qualify for a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit by meeting the attached Permit criteria, or hold a valid and unexpired National Child Development Associate Credential
2. First aid and CPR certified (required within 90 days of hire)
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Primarily works in an indoor school or playground environment with furniture and equipment built to accommodate preschool-age children.

Child Development Associate Teacher Permit
Authorization
A Child Development Associate Teacher Permit authorizes the holder to provide service in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program, and supervise a CDP Assistant, and an aide.
Requirements
To qualify for the Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, individuals must satisfy all of the requirements listed in one of the following options:
Option 1
1. Complete a minimum of 12 semester units of course work in early childhood education or child development (excluding field work), including at least one course of at least three semester units in each of the following core areas:
a. Child/human growth and development.
b. Child, family, and community, or child and family relations.
c. Programs/curriculum.
2. Complete at least 50 days of experience in an instructional capacity in a child care and development program, working at least three hours per day within the last two years. This experience must be verified by submitting an original letter from the employer on official letterhead.
School-Age Emphasis under this option requires that 6 of the 12 semester units in early childhood/child development be in school age course work.

Term and Renewal
The Child Development Associate Teacher Permit is issued for five years and is renewable once, for a total of two issuances. To renew, the holder must complete at least 15 semester units toward the Child Development Teacher Permit. By the end of the ten-year period, the holder must meet the requirements for the Child Development Teacher Permit.
OTHER:
1. To comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees must provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
2. FINGERPRINTING FOR CONDUCTING A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION IS REQUIRED and completed upon offer of employment.
3.
