DEFINITION
Under general supervision, receives work requests from department staff and coordinates with County General Services for work to be performed.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
The incumbent in this position will have a basic understanding of the building, grounds and janitorial work efforts necessary to support the construction, maintenance and repair requirements of a wide range of owned and leased facilities. Works with management in evaluating pending and any upcoming work requests.

- Accepts work requests from department staff including, but not limited to, established preventive maintenance programs, departmental phone, fax and email requests, email request and help desk tickets.
- Acts as department liaison with County General Services to ensure work requests are submitted and managed to completion in a timely manner.
- Identifies and advises management of emergency and safety related requests or concerns.
- Coordinates work to be performed with office staff at the work location to minimize disruptions.
- May plan and direct the work of subordinate staff and provide supervisor with feedback on staff performance evaluations.
- May assist County General Services with scheduling and coordinating contractors and other vendors to allow access to department owned and leased buildings.
- Provide routine facility related assistance to staff as needed.
- Maintains and updates data base systems as needed, including the department’s Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Advises management of reoccurring maintenance problems that may necessitate alternative maintenance or staff training programs, and prompts management to resolve work requests remaining in a pending status for prolonged periods of time.
- Performs a wide variety of clerical functions for the department, including gathering and organizing a wide range of data.
- Stays conversant of routine, major and emergency work progress to continually facilitate schedule changes.
Knowledge of:
- Methods, practices, tools, equipment, materials and safety procedures used in the repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical components of facilities, including preventive maintenance, with the ability to estimate and assign resources to perform a given task.
- Develop methods and tools, including the use of planning and/or scheduling software.
- Modern office methods and practices and office automation tools, including word processing, electronic mail, electronic spreadsheets, databases and related office integration software.
- Applicable laws, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations pertaining to the building trades.
- Basic principles and practices of accounting and mathematical computations.
- Business English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Ability To:
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, drawings and diagrams.
- Exercise judgment in order to prioritize, plan and schedule multiple tasks and demands.
- Monitor, document, and analyze the results of scheduled activities to assist in implementing preventive maintenance programs.
- Use a computer to enter, manipulate, analyze, and extract data, and to design and prepare compliance and technical reports.
- Use tact, patience and courtesy with internal and external customers and co-workers.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to listen, explain and facilitate, as well as ask for input, accept suggestions, and work with others to solve problems.
- Maintain attention to detail and follow through amid interruptions and changing priorities.
- Understand, interpret, and apply departmental programs, policies, rules and regulations; and make recommendations for necessary operational improvements.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
High school diploma or equivalent GED certificate; and
Two (2) years of experience coordinating and/or scheduling the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds including one (1) year of experience with the use of computer programs
Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess a valid US driver’s license upon date of application. Must obtain California driver’s license following hire date per California DMV regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The primary duties of this class are performed in an office environment.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS UTILIZED
- Standard equipment includes personal computer, office equipment, motor vehicle and standard building tools.
Disaster Service Worker
All Butte County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Salary : $40,290 - $53,997
