Job Summary:
The Sanitation Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing activities related to Food Safety, Sanitation, and Quality Management Systems. This position manages plant-wide cleaning and sanitation practices/personnel as well as strict compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
This position ensures sanitation procedures are effective and fully comply with established food safety/regulatory requirements. The incumbent ensures that all workplace and food safety procedures are followed, that all processing equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized, and that sanitation associates are scheduled based on the company’s operational demands.
In addition, this position is responsible for planning, developing, writing, submitting, and implementing techniques, processing systems, procedures, and/or standard work instructions necessary to maintain the food safety and quality/sanitation systems. This position provides support to other business units.
As a Sanitation Manager, you will:
- Design, direct, and manage the Sanitation Program in accordance with company policies and government regulations.
- Lead and oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of SSOPs/MSS.
- Provide risk assessment analysis including verification and validation of sanitation procedures and product safety inspections.
- Perform sanitation and facility audits, assign corrective actions, and verify completion.
- Take a continuous improvement approach regarding sanitation-related opportunities and deliver action plans to mitigate risks and/or improve current state; lead all applicable corrective actions.
- Enhance Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) and lead resolution of microbial events.
- Provide oversight, direction, and leadership to 3rd shift sanitation and quality staff, including conducting daily departmental workflows, managing performance and ensuring training for all sanitation employees.
- Recommend and approve purchases related to food safety, sanitation, and quality.
- Lead cross-functional meetings related to food safety, sanitation, and quality.
- Track and monitor cleaning supplies, chemicals, tools, and any other equipment/supplies necessary to the operation of the sanitation department.
- Use CMMS to monitor and track inventory of consumable parts.
- Prepare the annual sanitation budget.
- Support all food safety and product certification processes and audits.
- Compile reports (regulatory and company) of inspections, sanitation violations, and actions to resolve deficiencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
We believe a successful Sanitation Manager will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, food science, or related field required; equivalent experience in lieu of education will be accepted.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in food manufacturing and sanitation.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience supervising sanitation employees/programs.
- Clean-In-Place (CIP) or Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) experience strongly preferred.
- Third shift experience strongly preferred.
- Workplace safety and HAZMAT/chemical safety training and experience required, including PPE and LOTO.
- Corrective actions/root cause analysis, cGMPs, and audit readiness experience required.
- Upon hiring, HACCP Certification required within 12 months.
- Understanding quality assurance principles and control measures in FDA/USDA regulated industries.
