BX Civil & Construction developed the Construction Discovery Shadow Program to expose high school students to the heavy highway construction field.
What is the Construction Discovery Shadow Program?

- On-site observatory experience at job sites within the area
- Small, manageable sessions with plenty of time for questions
- Flexible scheduling based on student availability
- All personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided for the student
- Shadow and talk with professionals in the industry regarding:
- Project Management
- Field Technology
- Supervisor Roles
- Mechanics
- Estimating
- Safety
- A free program for High School Students
- Limited space is available so apply early
Who is this program for?
- High school students who are:
- 16 years or older
- Thinking about starting a career in construction after high school, or just want to learn more about the field.
- Interested in going to a trade school or community college to study Construction Management, Heavy Equipment Operation, or Diesel Mechanics.
- Considering attending a 4-year college to major in civil engineering or construction management.
- Looking for summer jobs to do between college classes.
Program Requirements:
- Students must to fill out the application.
- Both the student and their parent must sign a program waiver before starting.
- Students must arrange their own transportation to and from the BX Project Office in Dell Rapids for scheduled sessions.
- This program is only for observing; students cannot join in the actual work.
