Who is Bynx?

A family-owned/operated café, live stage, record shop, and recording studio in Thornton Park. Our environment celebrates people throughout the world who’ve made a cultural impact through their music, literature and broad artistic form.

Bynx’s café serves high-quality coffee that’s sourced from socially and environmentally-conscious companies. Bynx’s shop deals in collectible and hard-to-find books and ephemera, as well as a curated selection of vinyl records. Bynx’s recording studio provides a creative place for aspiring and established musical artists.

Oh, and we have a mobile shop too! The Bynx Bus sells items at events around Central Florida.

Who do we need?

An experienced Barista who can not only make and serve great drinks, but can engage customers from the moment they walk in the door and keep them coming back for more. The Barista must have a great attitude and willingness to cross train in all front of house duties.

Barista Responsibilities

The Barista will be responsible for performing duties listed below along with any additional duties as seen fit by management and per business needs:

• Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers within 30 seconds from entering the shop and engaging in friendly communication
• Take accurate orders and communicate to team member as needed
• Prepare all beverages according to Bynx standards and specifications as well as guest requests
• Offer customer demonstrations and samples using brewing equipment
• Create opportunities for customer to interact with the product
• Assure quality in regards to espresso, brewed coffee and other prepared beverages
• Perform point of sale / cashier duties including completing all special transactions, coupons, free drink/loyalty cards, credit cards, etc. on rotation or as scheduled
• Properly bag orders for takeout or serve orders for dine-in; provide utensils or condiments as appropriate
• Cross train in all front of house positions
• Follow store policy and procedures for operational flow at each station
• Maintain and clean equipment and other shop areas in accordance with the duty roster and cleaning standards including cleaning of restrooms
• Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products
• Follow standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating and storing products
• Follow inventory stocking and recording guidelines
• Complete assigned daily, weekly, and monthly side-work duties

Qualifications for our Barista

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• At least 2 years of experience working in a coffee shop
• Experience creating latté art is a plus!
• Strong communication and relationship building skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to learn about sale items and company procedures quickly
• Ability to work in a strong team environment as well as individually with minimal supervision
• Exceptional work ethic to meet goals and abide by company policies
• Ability to utilize a POS system
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Conditions and Physical Requirements

The Barista must be able to:

• Sit, stand, and walk for required periods of time
• Lift moderately heavy boxes / materials of up to 30lbs.
• Speak, hear, and/or communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary
• Ability to grasp and manipulate items / manual dexterity
