General Description :
The Research and Development Intern is responsible for completing assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Research and Development Intern does this by completing assigned R&D Duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Research and Development Intern is also responsible for assisting and supporting product development. The Research and Development Intern completes these functions in the support of the manufacture of dairy-related products.
Job Responsibilities :
- Responsible for achieving assigned goals in the areas of production, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
- Responsible for complying with GMPs, SOPs, corporate and / or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
- Support prototype development for customers and new projects / concepts under the guidance of experienced R&D professionals.
- Assist in designing and conducting experiments in the laboratory and pilot plant to contribute to project advancement.
- Collaborate with different departments to leverage resources and capabilities for New Product Development (NPD) and customer projects.
- Participate in formulation experiments, trials, and scale-ups based on project requirements.
- Assist in operating laboratory and pilot plant equipment, gaining exposure to various processes such as hot fill, cold fill, and UHT processes.
- Contribute to the analysis of experimental data and interpretation of results.
- Stay informed about industry trends and technological developments relevant to the company's needs.
- Perform various shelf-life tests to evaluate the product performance over a period of time.
- Support the sensory test testing for the panel.
- Maintain accurate records, provide project updates to stakeholders, and actively participate in team meetings.
- Works safely and reports safety concerns promptly to their supervisor / lead and takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
- Responsible for reporting food safety problems and initiating action and for supporting SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
- Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adhere to sanitation practices.
- Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments.
- Responsible for ensuring direct reports assigned duties and responsibilities are covered during planned and unplanned absences from work, including acting as a backup as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned by leadership.

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $20.00 to $25.00.
