General Description :
The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer is responsible for completing assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer does this by improving and maintaining the uptime, operation, and overall efficiency of instrumentation, automation components, and integrated systems and networks at Byrne facilities. The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer also ensures machine-level data is accurately captured and reported by PLC and instrumentation network for consumption by other engineering and business systems. The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer completes these functions in the support of the manufacture of dairy-related products.
Job Responsibilities :
- Responsible for achieving assigned goals in production, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
- Notifies others of mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity and equipment capabilities and begins to identify areas where operators can assist in resolving concerns.
- Responsible for complying with GMPs, SOPs, corporate and / or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
- Aids and supports all areas in the production facility as assigned by supervisor / lead and begins to train and build competence on key areas in production such as fillers, forklifts, and production lines.
- Responsible for gaining competence in online circuits and learning proper hookups made in the facility.
- Use critical thinking and expert judgment to diagnose problems and identify improvement opportunities.
- Troubleshoot and maintain electrical control systems, electromechanical equipment, and related instrumentation and controls for machines and manufacturing processes.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks related to the above, including but not limited to validation and / or calibration of instrumentation.
- Identify and develop recommended and required logical and visual programming changes and escalate for validation and implementation. Perform implementation where assigned.
- Maintain and modify SCADA and other industrial software systems to improve operations.
- Mentor and train employees in the duties and skills of this role as assigned or required.
- Actively support the lifecycle of change and configuration management for equipment and processes.
- Generate and maintain comprehensive documentation in well-organized repositories, including but not limited to proposed and approved changes, trial and production configurations, maintenance activities, performance / quality reporting, and related communications.
- Track and regularly report on key performance metrics to leadership as assigned.
- Develop and present potential actions / changes to lower risk, increase value / benefits, and / or leverage available resources to improve work cell performance.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, external vendors, and within the organization.
- Participate in the development of capital project planning and support strategic capital planning and execution processes.
- Develop subject matter expertise within the industry for equipment, processes, and innovation to support strategic initiatives.
- Compliance with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety on their assigned shift and reports concerning their supervisor / lead.
- Works in a safe manner and reports safety concerns promptly to their supervisor / lead and takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
- Responsible for reporting food safety problems and initiating action and for supporting SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
- Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adhere to sanitation practices.
- Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments.
- All other duties as assigned by leadership.

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $88,000 to $116,500.
