We are looking for an experienced CDL Lowboy driver. You will be responsible for safely transporting heavy machinery, oversized loads, and specialized equipment using a lowboy trailer. This role requires exceptional driving skills, knowledge of load-securing techniques, and adherence to federal and state transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Transportation:
- Safely load, secure, and transport heavy machinery or oversized loads to designated locations using a lowboy trailer.
- Load Securement:
- Ensure proper securing of equipment using chains, binders, straps, and other tools to comply with safety regulations.
- Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections:
- Conduct thorough inspections of the truck, trailer, and load before and after trips to ensure safety and compliance.
- Route Planning:
- Plan routes based on load size and weight, avoiding restricted areas, low-clearance bridges, and other obstacles.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including weight limits, permits, and service hours.
- Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and report mechanical issues to ensure the vehicle's reliability and safety.
- Communication:
- Coordinate with dispatchers, customers, and site managers to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
- Safety Practices:
- Follow company policies and industry best practices to maintain safety on the road and at delivery sites.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Required:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for heavy haul or oversized loads.
- Clean driving record and at least 2 years of experience driving heavy equipment transport.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and oversized load permit requirements.
- Preferred:
- Experience operating heavy machinery, such as bulldozers or excavators.
- Familiarity with GPS and route optimization tools.
- Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to handle load security and vehicle inspections.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
Work Environment:
- Long-haul trips requiring overnight stays.
- Exposure to outdoor elements while loading or securing equipment.
- Operation of heavy machinery and working in construction or industrial environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and secure heavy chains, straps, and binders (up to 75 lbs.).
- Climbing onto equipment and trailers as needed.
- Prolonged sitting while driving.
