What you’ll do
The primary purpose of this job position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Head Cook and/or Director of Food Services, to assure that quality food service is provided at all times.
2nd shift hours are 11am - 7:30pm
- Review menus prior to preparation of food.
- Inspect special diet trays to assure that the correct diet is served to the resident
- Coordinate food service with other departments as necessary.
- Ensure that all food procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
- Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
- Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of Cook.
- Ensure that menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist in establishing food service production line, etc., to assure that meals are prepared on time.
- Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
Byron is searching for someone who is willing to work as a team, willing to learn new trends, and is passionate about producing delicious meals in the professional food service industry. Applicants must have the following:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
- Be knowledgeable of food procedures and passionate about food
- Focus on Nutrition
- Accountability for following proper procedures
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Willingness to learn new trends and be passionate about producing delicious meals in the professional food service industry
- Compassion for people
- Be reliable and committed to quality
- Responsibility for cleaning and sanitation- including all workspaces and personal hygiene

Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year food experience in a nursing care facility, or other related medical facility preferred (but not required)
- Currently enrolled at Ivy Tech as a culinary student (preferred but not required)
- Servsafe Certification a plus
