In a nutshell:
The Buyer/Planner II is responsible for managing the procurement and planning activities to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials for the company. This role involves evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing inventory levels, and ensuring that production schedules align with business needs. The Buyer/Planner II will work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, warehouse, finance, and quality assurance, to optimize supply chain operations.
What you will be doing:
- Follow up on open Purchase Orders with all vendors to ensure all PO’s are received by the promised date. Maintain accurate data in SAP.
- Analyze inventory data and adjust procurement strategies to minimize carrying costs and reduce waste.
- Review material requirements planning (MRP) data to issue purchase orders.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstocking and meet target inventory turns. Review Exceptions messages to adjust delivery dates, push out or expedite orders as needed.
- Assist in resolving issues related to supply chain disruptions, quality concerns, price discrepancies or material shortages.
- Sourcing – find and evaluate suppliers based on quality, price, delivery, and overall reliability. Send out RFQ’s, conduct cost comparison and negotiations, select vendors.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements to ensure the best possible value.
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure quality and delivery standards are met.
- Contribute to cost reduction initiatives across the supply chain.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key tasks and Responsibilities:
- Manage the procurement process for materials and components, ensuring competitive pricing and on-time delivery.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstocking and meet target inventory turns. Review Exceptions messages to adjust delivery dates, push out or expedite orders as needed.
- Collaborate with Production, Quality and Warehouse to align delivery with production plans.
- Work with suppliers to negotiate terms, lead times, and pricing, building and maintaining strategic suppliers.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings through supplier negotiations, alternative sourcing, or process improvements.
KPI’s:
- Cost savings/cost reduction
- Inventory turns
- Days on backorder/backorder value
Key Skillset:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with SAP a plus.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and generate results in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
Your education & experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a related field.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a purchasing role.
