This is a temporary to permanent hire Service Contract Act position with an hourly pay rate of $33.35 that includes a Health and Welfare Benefit of $4.41 an hour.

Service  Contract Act, or SCA, position pay rates are determined by the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division.

Upon completion of six (6) months of employment, the selected candidate can expect an annual salary as a permanent full-time employee with the federal contractor.


Period of Performance: 
Current contract period: Date of Hire through May 31, 2024
-  with the potential for annual extensions through May 31, 2027
preference for placement/transfer as federal contract employee after six (6) months employment with C&C International

Work Operations:  40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the exception of federal holidays, unless otherwise stated

Overtime and travel may be required as needed with proper authorization

Special Requirements:
 
-  Must be a U.S. citizen

(active clearance preferred)

Qualifications: 
 
  • Requires Paralegal Certificate, Juris Doctorate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one (1) year of study,
    • or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted
  • Additionally at least two (2) years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience is required
 
  • *At least one (1) year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • *Excellent written and oral communication skills.

*Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
*Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as Lexis Nexis and Westlaw

*Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems
*Role also requires hands-on familiarity with Electronically Stored Information, ESI, tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
*Extensive experience with cite checking and Blue Book
*Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important
*Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
*Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

*Experience working in a government and/or litigation support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications, preferred
*Experience with Relativity strongly preferred and should be referenced within resume.
*Trial experience very helpful
*Current or active clearance

Responsibilities/Duties:

Typical assignments include the following but not limited to:
• Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor or person of Authority
• Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines
• In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence
• Contact mostly with other Contractor staff, but occasional contact with trial staff may be required
• Cite checking via online legal research tools Westlaw and Lexis and Blue Book

Other duties may include such as but not limited to:
• Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents;
• Maintains case files;
• Performs simple legal research;
• Indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery);
• Indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.
• Prepares exhibit cross-references.
• Assists attorneys in courtroom.
• Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
• Downloading, organizing, and maintaining: electronic and physical documents and files
• Organizing and maintaining: shared workrooms, calendars, files, and drives
• Transcribing notes and recorded material
• Summarizing dense documents like transcripts
• Coordinating and facilitating deliveries (serving as the point of contact as necessary), orders for transcripts, the creation of shared calendars, witness travel and interviews, the acquisition of signatures on forms and contracts, the outsourcing of voluminous copying or printing jobs as needed, the ordering of supplies that aren’t readily available in the supply room; coordinating with the Automated Litigation Support, ALS, Lab as needed for database creation and document processing; coordinating with courts and other offices and counsel regarding shared workspaces

• Filing documents in the Active Records Unit, ARU
• Drafting, proofreading, editing, and formatting correspondence and non-complex memoranda, papers, and statements
• Performing fact and legal research
• Verifying the accuracy of formatting as well as the strength and suitability of cited authorities
• Monitoring and tracking deadlines, docket entries (setting case monitoring alerts), trial activity, exhibits, depositions, edits, current events that may affect litigation, etc.
• Checking that funding is sufficient and invoices have been processed by the appropriate personnel
• Creating and or preparing filings; presentations (operating associated equipment as needed); cover sheets; war rooms; administrative records; various types of lists, indices, and appendices; binders for prep, interviews, and court appearances; logs for tracking and charts of various types (notably associated with fees petitions and bills of costs); and tables of contents and of authorities
• Scheduling training, meetings, and interviews; handling associated logistical arrangements
• Reserving conference rooms and conference lines
• Assisting with travel, depositions, preparation for interviews and court appearances, serving subpoenas, securing contract services of experts and other professionals (e.g. court reporter, videographers, service processors, ALS Lab and trial assistance), etc.
• Reviewing and processing settlement payments; reviewing and processing documents relating to discovery and other phases of litigation (e.g. scanning, indexing, logging, tagging, marking, highlighting, identifying designated testimony, identifying privileged and protected information, copying, bates stamping, redacting, applying appropriate warnings and markings regarding the treatment of the documents, etc.)
• Attending various types of appearances, interviews, appointments, training, and meetings

The above-mentioned duties may be performed as single functions or in combination with one another.
