Position Summary
The Paralegal will assist attorney(s) by providing administrative and research support services including document preparation and review; interviewing clients, conducting research, investigations, and fact checking. May supervise the work of one or more legal assistants.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- May lead a team of legal assistants.
- Coordinate and assign work of cases.
- Review cases before submitting cases for attorney review.
- Mentor and give feedback to legal assistants, to promote growth and learning.
- Draft legal arguments and revise declarations.
- Compile, proofread and revise drafts of legal documents and reports drafted by legal assistants.
- Perform accurate legal research and analysis.
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations in legal documents.
- Obtain relevant information from other organizations or agencies.
- Communicate effectively with USCIS, other immigration agencies, clients and teammates.
- Create and organize information.
- Prepare and format legal reports.
- Maintain and update databases and tracking systems.
- Respond to all case-related inquiries from legal assistants and other departments.
- Maintain a consistent attendance record and availability, whether in office or remote.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities:
- Bilingual (Spanish) written/oral. Fluency is mandatory.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
- Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills
- Supervisory and leadership skills. Be able to lead a team by inspiring others with the ability of sharing the firm’s vision.
- Detail oriented
- Excellent time management skills
- Skilled at working independently and also collaboratively
- Strong skill level in MS Office Suite/Google Suite, including Word, Excel, Google Docs, GoogleSheets, etc.
- Familiarity with key legal principles
- Able to exercise good judgment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Education/Experience
- Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field, or equivalent related experience required.
- Paralegal certificate preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 4 years Legal Assistant or Paralegal experience required.
- Immigration law or litigation experience is preferred, but not required.
