Job Summary

The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, in conjunction with the Office of Budget & Planning Institutional Research group, is seeking an Assessment and Evaluation Specialist to support student success initiatives. These initiatives depend on data analysis and assessment to inform decisions about policies and practices that impact equitable student success as well as highlighting issues that warrant attention. This work is guided and informed by a steering committee, which is chaired by the Provost and which includes senior leadership from the Provost Office. The goal is to devise data-driven and evidence-based initiatives to promote student success and close equity and opportunity gaps in our 4 and 6-year graduation rates. This position will work primarily on creating a multiyear, multidimensional plan to assess the goals and outcomes of these initiatives. This is a two-year term-limited appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on continued funding, your satisfactory performance and conduct, and the availability of work. This position will report to the Associate Director of Institutional Research.

This position will be hybrid and will have a shared campus workspace at the Ann Arbor, MI campus location.

Responsibilities*

Program Evaluation and Assessment

  • Develop and execute evaluation plans for student success initiatives.
  • Create assessment plans for academic advising and coaching services.
  • Collaborate on survey implementation and enhancement.

Data Collection and Analysis

  • Collect, manage, and report data.
  • Conduct in-depth program analyses.
  • Provide recommendations for future programs.
  • Evaluate new project proposals.
  • Develop student success analytics dashboards.

Presentations and Communications

  • Present data and analyses to various audiences.
  • Create written materials to communicate findings.

Additional Duties

  • Collaborate with multiple units and represent the Provost's Office.
  • Consult on data-related projects.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Education, Information, Data Science or Program Evaluation, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 2 years of professional experience collecting and evaluating data or conducting research about educational experiences or outcomes; including survey instrument design and conducting focus groups or interviews
  • Experience with reading/consulting education research literature
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity in data analysis and in considering the impact of policies and programs on diverse groups of students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • 2 years of professional experience with advanced data analysis and visualization tools, including psychometric methods, multivariate models, and handling large datasets in various formats (such as Tableau, Excel, Google Sheets, and Airtable)
  • Proficient knowledge of and experience with analytical approaches such as IRT, CFA/EFA, SEM, multivariate regression, causal inference methods (e.g., matching, DiD), and grounded theory or thematic analysis
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs, i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and analysis software (R or Stata, Mplus, Maxqda or Nvivo or Dedoose) and survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics).
