Job Summary

Facilities & Operations (F&O) is searching for an experienced Budget Analyst Senior to join the Finance team within Operational Support. The ideal candidate will bring strategic thinking and an analytical approach to developing and analyzing budgets, forecasting, and performance reports for assigned units, with particular focus on converting data into clear reports, communicating unit financial results and handling additional projects as needed.

Facilities and Operations (F&O) has primary responsibility for the stewardship of the university's physical properties, including 37 million square feet of building space. We are responsible for sophisticated and complex academic, research and clinical facilities, as well as associated environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. Facilities and Operations Operational Support includes finance, human resources, training, and information services. The F&O Finance team provides consolidated business support to F&O departments in the areas of fiscal management, reporting, budgeting, payroll and timekeeping, rate development, and internal controls.

Responsibilities*

Budget And Performance Analysis

  • Develop and analyze budgets, forecasts, and performance reports for assigned units, with particular focus on insights and key takeaways
  • Prepare operating budgets using past figures, actual performance, estimated revenue, and expenses.
  • Collaborate with unit representatives to guide budget development and monthly projections.
  • Provide financial and operational projections and analyze budget variances.

Data Analysis And Reporting

  • Translate data into clear, concise reporting leveraging internal systems.
  • Collect and organize data, building comprehensive models with documented assumptions.
  • Ensure departmental expenditures align with budget expectations.
  • Present findings to those with various financial acumen and make actionable recommendations.

Additional Projects

  • Coordinate annual certification processes
  • Audit vouchers and expense accounts.
  • Recharge Rate Management
  • Support ad hoc projects and other Finance & Operations functions as needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a business-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, including at least 3 years in financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Strong financial management skills in budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis tools and software, particularly Business Objects. Demonstrated skill in creating data queries and reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of budgeting and variance analysis. Extensive knowledge and experience using spreadsheets, advanced spreadsheet functions and complex databases.
  • Highly proactive, a high degree of problem-solving skills, a high sense of ownership and accountability for workload, and flexibility during times of change.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to recognize and investigate data anomalies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize and present complex financial information clearly and concisely to leadership.
