Job Summary

The Research Assistant (RA) will support the ongoing research and administrative functions within our thyroid research group ThyCARE within the Division of Metabolism Endocrinology & Diabetes. This position will provide administration support for multiple research studies, under multiple investigators, which will include an understanding of study protocols to assist with successful implementation of all study requirements. The RA will interact with the project manager, investigators, research staff within and outside of UM, study participants, and vendors/sponsors.

Responsibilities*

The RA Will Provide Support To The Project Manager In The Coordination And Execution Of Human Subjects Clinical Research Projects Within Our Thyroid Research Group. Primary Activities Will Include, But Not Limited To

  • Demonstrate understanding of protocol elements/requirements and demonstrate the ability to execute simple study procedures
  • Demonstrate ability to screen participants for eligibility in NIH funded studies including clinical trials as well as internally funded studies and consent/enroll participants with accuracy
  • Assist in coordinating follow-up interactions, as well as schedule and assist with interviews/focus groups
  • Develop study materials (i.e., consent forms, research flyers, recruitment materials)
  • Act as a liaison between investigators, sponsors, clinical trials office, and other internal and external contacts for the initiation and execution of clinical research

Data Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection, data entry, and maintenance of all data related to clinician and patient participation in studies
  • Take an active role in ensuring data quality

Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of Institutional Review Board submissions including the initial applications, as well as amendments and scheduled continuing reviews, progress reports, safety reports, adverse events, and data use agreements.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for study activity including scanning/filing of research documents; managing organization of research documents
  • Communicate with study participants via mail, e-mail or phone
  • Schedule project meetings
  • Assist with updating faculty CVs, NIH biosketches, providing documentation as needed/requested'
  • Reconcile expenses in chrome river
  • Purchase/order items as needed for current research projects
  • Coordinate visiting professors travel/itinerary
  • Assist with manuscript preparation/submission including creating figures/table

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 1-3 related experience
  • Excellent communication / interpersonal skills are necessary in order to work effectively with the study team and participants
  • Demonstrates understanding of medical terminology
  • Proficient in computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and EndNote

Desired Qualifications*

  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail and willingness to learn new skills
  • Prior work experience with recruitment and enrollment
  • Prior work experience interacting with patients
  • Experience with Institutional Review Board applications
  • Data entry/management in REDCap

Work Schedule

This position will offer a flexible work schedule by offering both in-person and remote opportunities. Please note that due to the nature of this position, a minimum of 2 days per week in office at North Campus Research Complex in Ann Arbor, MI will be required.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
