Position Overview: The Mechanic’s Helper will primarily assist with the upkeep and repair of street sweepers, dump trucks, and water trucks in our fleet. This hands-on role will allow you to develop your mechanical abilities while supporting our experienced mechanic.
This position is perfect for someone eager to learn and grow in the field of vehicle maintenance. It offers the opportunity to acquire specialized skills in maintaining and repairing street sweepers and related equipment. In addition to mechanical work, the role will include basic lube and tube tasks, preventative maintenance, and other duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the diagnosis and repair of street sweepers, dump trucks, and water trucks.
- Perform maintenance on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
- Support mechanic with the repair of mechanical systems, such as brakes, transmission, exhaust systems, and suspension components.
- Perform routine lube and tube work, including oil changes, tire maintenance, and fluid checks.
- Test-drive vehicles to ensure repairs are effective and that all systems function properly.
- Work alongside technician to troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic issues.
- Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing tasks.
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, properly storing tools and equipment.
- Assist with preventative maintenance to ensure fleet readiness and reliability.
- Assist in the completion of minor welding and fabricating tasks as needed.
- Support the team with other maintenance-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 1- 2 years of mechanic experience, preferably with diesel engines, street sweepers, or similar vehicles.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to perform basic lube and tube work, including oil changes, tire repairs, and fluid maintenance.
- Class A or B license is a plus but not required.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- A willingness to learn new skills and grow within the company.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.
- Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and working on your feet for extended periods.
