Strittmatter Companies is an established and growing excavation, demolition, and trucking company providing responsive, timely site-work solutions for government, commercial, and residential projects throughout the entire Metropolitan D.C.-area. Since 1978, we have been working with some of the largest, most well-known names in the industry.
Strittmatter Companies is seeking a Driver Trainer with minimum of 5 (five) years driving a CDL dump truck, with a clean CDL driver’s record and current DOT card. The Driver Trainer will facilitate dump truck-driver drive-tests, and train newly hired drivers who successfully completed all pre-employment testing. Additionally, the role is responsible for ensuring all dump trucks and other support vehicles leave the truck yard safely, and on-time. This is not an inclusive list of tasks.
Key Accountabilities
- Hours of service are Monday – Saturday necessitating a 5:30am start-time.
- Administer dump truck driver candidates who meet the hiring criteria.
- Work with Manager to create a three-day driving program.
- Responsible for conducting the training program with all new drivers.
- Ability to communicate effectively, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and peers.
- Adaptive communication skills, and can adjust according to the individual’s learning styles.
- Provide behind-the-wheel training and re-training as directed.
- Provide appropriate feedback to employees.
- Drive dump truck as needed – whether it is following a driver’s at-fault accident, or necessary truck maintenance.
- Monitor the drivers to determine they are following all FMCSA regulations and policies.
- Coordinate, and/or facilitate assigned monthly driver’s meeting.
- Provide timely feedback with Supervisors in regards to daily events, along with potential disciplinary concerns.

Required Qualifications
- Possess a valid Class A or Class B license and current DOT medical card.
- Clean driver’s record
- Minimum of five years dump truck driving experience
- Valid DOT medical card
- Ability to pass drug screens
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Microsoft proficiency
- Excellent communication skills with all levels of staff to include email, phone, or in-person.
- Experience training personnel in the trucking industry.
- Ability to work Saturday, and occasional evening or Sunday. The Company has snow contracts.
- Must be experienced navigating a dump truck throughout the entire Washington, D.C. area.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to get in and out of dump trucks for 8-10 hours per day.
- Must be able to personally examine all parts of the dump truck to include the cab, dump truck bed, and under the dump truck.
- Ability to lift and/or pull up to fifty pounds
- Experience organizing workload, and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30 or OSHA 10
- Knowledge of the Smith System of Driving
