A railroad Signal Supervisor for CDL is, in part, responsible for testing, maintaining and improving signal systems at grade crossings and way-side signal locations in accordance with FRA and CDL standards. Required Experiences

Knowledge of basic electronics and electrical fundamentals with an emphasis on low-voltage AC & DC circuits and relay or ladder logic. Must be able to read wiring diagrams and use multi-meter. Must be able to use advanced testing equipment such as a relay slide, megger, narrow-band shunt tester, short-finder, etc.

Knowledge of rail operations generally and railroad signaling principals specifically. The focus of a signal supervisor could be either grade-crossing or way-side signal systems.

At least 5 years of experience as a signal maintainer and/or signal installer.

Have experience testing and documenting relay tests and cable resistance tests in accordance with FRA regulations.

Posses a working and theoretical knowledge of grade crossing AND way-side signal systems, there function, purpose and testing requirements.

Signal maintaining, and supervising is a largely independent job thus good time management and personal initiative are essential.

Must be proficient with a personal computer and the MS Office line of products.

High school diploma or GED equivalent unless otherwise approved by upper management.

Prior experience in people or multi-faceted project management preferred.

Relatable experience in HVAC, Avionics, Communications, Motor Control and PLCs will also be evaluated as requirements for the job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for testing, maintaining and improving grade crossing warning, AEI or defect detector systems on an assigned territory. Follow regulations and testing procedures as set forth in the Blue Book.

Responsible for testing, maintenance and improvements of way-side, train control systems. Follow regulations and testing procedures as set forth in the Green Book.

Lead and train signal maintainers under their responsibility

Complete required efficiency testing and evaluation of the maintainers under their responsibility.

Willing to be On-Call much of the time and respond to dispatch and supervisor Trouble Calls in a timely manner. Serve as a POC for signal maintainers looking for help trouble shooting train detection and signal control systems.

Understand and comply with FRA rules and regulations around railroad signaling, (both 234 & 236 Rules) including the Hours Of Service Law.

Be responsible for all paperwork and retention schedules. Paperwork can include: testing records, HOS forms, timesheets, material handling forms and trouble tickets. The responsibility for complete and accurate testing records and HOS documentation may continue after separation from CDL; voluntary or involuntary.

Foster good relationships with local railroad customers and suppliers.

Be a team player willing to help on other territories and railroads. Assist with special projects, when assigned.
