Position Overview:

C2 Group seeks highly qualified inspectors for an Overhead Powerline Inspection program in Southern California that will utilize the combination of drone pilots and field inspectors to complete the inspection of electric utility distribution structures. The Distribution Field Inspector/Drone Flight Visual Observer (VO) will work as part of a team of two, including a Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC), to inspect Electrical Overhead Distribution and lower voltage Transmission structures in Southern California. Each team of two is part of a larger group working together and supported by an onsite supervisors, safety management, Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) teams, and a back-office data support team. The applicant will be required to aid in achieving a professional approach to flight discipline and perform a field inspection of a specific structure, all while using sound judgment.

The Distribution Field Inspector/ Drone Flight VO will perform two primary functions at each assigned distribution structure:

  • The Distribution Field Inspector is responsible for preparing structure and equipment deficiency reports utilizing an iPad after conducting a visual inspection and reviewing data captured during the drone flight.
  • Pole inspections will include but not be limited to wood monopoles, light-duty steel poles, tubular steel poles, wood H-frames, and combo structures/poles.
  • Inspectors will utilize knowledge of relevant regulatory standards, including General Order (GO) 95 and GO 165 minimum standards, such as low conductors,damaged equipment, building/ground clearance violation, and imminenthazardous conditions that exist at the time of inspection.

During flight operations, the Distribution Field Inspector will act as a Visual Observer (VO) for the RPIC by providing situational awareness and communication about hazards and safety concerns surrounding the drone flight the following:

As a team, your general responsibilities include the following:

  • Assisting with pre-flight inspection,
  • Attending mission briefings by the RPIC,
  • Identifying all hazards, a drone may encounter during its flight patterns, all while keeping a constant line of sight on the drone and communicating with the publicin a courteous and professional manner.

Training:

C2 will provide extensive office-based & field-based training before field deployment for Distribution Field Inspectors, including, but not limited to:

  • Systems and equipment utilized for flight operations and completing the inspection,
  • Utility safety, aviation safety, and situational awareness,
  • Team operations and tasks,
  • Inspection methodologies and damage identification.

Employment Availability Requirements:

Initial training period will include 1 week of office based training and up to 1 week of field based training (~2 Weeks). Field deployment will begin directly after training. Inspection operations are to coincide with client and Utility Commission required deadlines, with project bulk completion milestones set approximately 3-6 months from initial deployment. Full-time long-term positions are available for the right candidate(s).

To qualify for this position, your Qualifications/Experience/Skills MUST Include:

2 years (min.) of experience in some combination of the following (3 years of experience preferred):

  • Electrical transmission/distribution lineman, trouble man, or similar experience
  • Electrical transmission/distribution asset inspector
