This position is located at Salinas Valley State Prison, CA (SVSP), which is accessibly located right off Highway 101, in Soledad City. Conveniently located, an hour from Monterey Beach and Carmel, plus only 1 and a half hour from San Jose International Airport. In the heart of adjacent communities such as Soledad, Greenfield, and Gonzales. With larger cities neighboring such as Salinas, and Hollister. This position hosts an ideal location with a low cost of living.

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs, the Academic Teacher provides both individual and group instruction; has responsibility for supervising the conduct of inmates while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custodial responsibilities in time of emergency; controls all materials and equipment which may be used as weapons; prepare courses of study and daily lesson plans; counsels students as to progress in the instructional program; work with students and help them set and meet educational goals; participates in program evaluation; inspects work areas and searches students for contraband; and plans, assigns and supervises work.
