Under the direction of a captain and under the direct supervision of the Correctional Counselor II (CCII), the Correctional Counselor I (CCI) is responsible for the on-going processing of IP casework. The responsibilities of the CCI include but are not limited to interviewing IPs, preparing for, and attending Initial, Annual, and Program Reviews at Unit and Institutional Classification Hearings, preparing various reports, maintenance of a caseload, filling out departmental and miscellaneous forms, utilizing various departmental computer systems, and working with the public and staff from other governmental agencies.

Working Conditions

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Special Requirements

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted with your application. The SOQ is a narrative discussion of how the candidate’s education, training, experience, and skills meet the desirable qualifications and demonstrate the candidate’s ability to perform the job duties listed in this bulletin. The SOQ serves as a documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. PDF version must be uploaded.

You must list each question and provide your answer below each question. When completing the SOQ please include all relevant experience, education, and training for each question and explain your answers thoroughly. Responses should be no longer than two pages in total length, single-spaced, and 12-point Courier New font, justified layout. Your SOQ must address the following:

  • Please explain your knowledge of Correctional Casework Procedures and how you would maintain, organize, and prioritize on ongoing caseload to perform the duties of CC-I.
  • Please explain your experience with report writing.
