What Does a Park Maintenance Supervisor Do?
Park Maintenance Supervisors are hands-on leaders who keep California’s parks safe, functional, and beautiful. You will:
- Plan, supervise, and lead teams maintaining park infrastructure including plumbing, electrical systems, buildings, trails, roads, and historical structures
- Oversee groundskeeping, resource protection, and hazardous material management
- Supervise crews including contractors, permanent staff, California Conservation Corps, or inmate workers
- Develop project plans, review maintenance proposals, and coordinate budgets and public works contracts
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, water and wastewater operations, and historic preservation
- Play a key role in energy-saving initiatives like solar retrofits and co-generation systems
Ideal Background Includes:
- Breadth of experience in varied maintenance activities
- Training in construction, maintenance, or pesticide/chemical applications
- College coursework in public administration, supervision, or management
- Strong leadership and project planning skills
- Class A or B driver license (preferred)
- Grade II Water Treatment Operator License (preferred)
- Familiarity with office automation and EDP systems
