What Does a Park Maintenance Supervisor Do?

Park Maintenance Supervisors are hands-on leaders who keep California’s parks safe, functional, and beautiful. You will:

  • Plan, supervise, and lead teams maintaining park infrastructure including plumbing, electrical systems, buildings, trails, roads, and historical structures
  • Oversee groundskeeping, resource protection, and hazardous material management
  • Supervise crews including contractors, permanent staff, California Conservation Corps, or inmate workers
  • Develop project plans, review maintenance proposals, and coordinate budgets and public works contracts
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, water and wastewater operations, and historic preservation
  • Play a key role in energy-saving initiatives like solar retrofits and co-generation systems

Ideal Background Includes:

  • Breadth of experience in varied maintenance activities
  • Training in construction, maintenance, or pesticide/chemical applications
  • College coursework in public administration, supervision, or management
  • Strong leadership and project planning skills
  • Class A or B driver license (preferred)
  • Grade II Water Treatment Operator License (preferred)
  • Familiarity with office automation and EDP systems
