General Definition of Work
In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, a substitute will help students learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms. Hours and days are as needed and will vary. Cabarrus County Schools does not guarantee a minimum or maximum number of work days or hours for substitutes.

Salary
- Sub for a Certified Teacher – Sub has a Current/Expired License: $123 per day
- Sub for a Certified Teacher – Sub is Unlicensed: $118 per day Sub for Non-Certified, Teacher Assistant (7.5 hour/day): $113 per day
Reports to
School Principal
Essential Functions
- Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
- Maintains, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
- Assumes the responsibilities for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
- Assumes other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class, during lunch, and other activities.
- Follows all district and individual school policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject. Performs other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by the School Administrator.

- Good discipline skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to administer teacher lesson plans.
- Ability to ensure a safe and healthful environment.
- Ability to assist students with understanding of rules and regulations.
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and neatness.
- Ability to maintain proper professional conduct. Ability to keep in confidence all personal, student or personnel records and information.
Education and Experience
- Current or expired teaching license from any state, preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience as a classroom teacher, preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years old, a hold a high school diploma or equivalent, have a clear criminal record and must meet one of the following:
- Hold a current or expired teaching license from North Carolina or another state
Physical Requirements
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
