What are the responsibilities and job description for the ACTIVE LIVING FITNESS INSTRUCTOR (PART-TIME) position at Cabarrus County?
THIS RECRUITMENT IS A CONTINUOUS OPENING AND WILL BE USED TO FILL POSITIONS AS THEY BECOME AVALIABLE.
This is a part-time contract fitness instructor position. The starting hiring range for this position is $35 per hour.
2-5 hours per week. Schedule will dependent upon class, activity scheduling, and location.
General Definition of Work:
Plans and facilitates exercise classes for which contracted employee is certified. Programs will utilize resources and equipment provided by Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks under the regular supervision of the Wellness Supervisor.
Essential Functions/ Typical Tasks
Leading fitness programs to older adults, youth, and other targeted community members in a variety of settings including but not limited to Senior Centers, Parks, LunchPlus Club sites, Community Centers and other organizations.

- Design and lead fitness classes
- Modify exercise programs for all ages and fitness levels
- Attend all scheduled fitness classes or find appropriate substitute for absences
- Attend paid instructor meetings
- Instructs and monitors participants regarding safe exercise principles and technique when participating in class
- May be asked to teach classes at special events
- Perform related tasks are required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of instructor’s certification area; ability to organize effective exercise programming for participants; ability to communicate with participants and staff; ability to present ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public; and ability to attend work regularly.
Education and Experience
Possession of active fitness certification in designated area. 6 months of experience working with older adults preferred.
Physical Requirements
This is normally light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires standing and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of CPR and first aid certification. Must have ability to work a flexible schedule.
